Fuel tank drop without a tank drop?

Hi all,

further to my earlier post regarding fuel pump swap, is it possible to do the 1st stages of a tank drop without actually dropping the tank?

The guard/carrier needs replacing badly, but can I swap it without actually dropping the tank completely?

If you are going to replace the carrier, don't do it badly
A couple of jacks and lengths of wood should hold the tank up while you remove the carrier. Best if the tank is nearly empty.
