Not sure how we go about putting our name Down for one but I'm certainly game. Perhaps asking for a deposit using Paypal or similar may be the way to go, any other suggestions most welcome.

Something I need doing

Clearly as time goes by there will be a demand for cradles. IIRC it isn't easy to fit a replacement. I suggest a new type be made that is easy to fit. Such a cradle will sell like hot cakes!!
The cradle on our 2005 TD4 is bad, our 2003 TD4 is very good. Either some were poorly painted initially or type of useage has an effect.
Been made out of old british Leyland/lada steel (scrap) :D

I could start up a new thread or something, but yeah, if i can get rough numbers and a guard to work from, then i can give prices based on batches of 10. Once price is confirmed, people can then place deposits or full payments. My company has its own paypal account, so that wouldn't be a problem.

Hi , not an easy job as usual , prop off , exhaust off , and lower the rear subframe , could it be made in two sections , left and right , with a bolt on centre section , see what you think , just a thought !

It could be made in 3 sections, but the problem with that is strength, plus if it goes under the mountings for other things, then it still needs to be fitted that way regardless. Although, given its such a PITA to change, then clearly i have to make "fit and forget" ones which aren't going to deterioriate like a tratter

Would save having a separate guard, could make 2 versions yeah!

Does the cradle support the tank or just wrap around it non structural?
From what I can see the cradle supports the fool tank and holds the fire shield and heat shield in place. It's the only support the fool tank has. the shields and their safety need to be taken into account.

Ere's some part numbers. It seems they changed them over the years and certain cradles are suited to certain vehicles.

Heat sheild
ESR4201
WEB000010

Heat sheild
ESR4340
WGC100000

Cradle
WFZ100100
WFZ100110
WFZ000010
WFI000010

From what i've found on t'interweb, there was one up til '99 then one for after, so maybe they were changed when they ditched the L series etc or something to coincide with the other changes made. Most people who want one will no doubt have a MY2000 onwards hippo, so shouldn't be too much of a problem

Would've thought that they would all have the same fittings and designs, are the fuel tanks common to every model? That should give an indication too
Petrol - 1.8 and v6
WFE103370 up to YA999999
WHK000020 from 1A000001 to 2A999999
WHK500020 from 3A000000 onwards

v6 (export non uk)
WHK000130 up to 2A209858 and WHK500010 for 2A2209859 onwards.

L series diesel up to YA999999
WFE106390

Td4 from 1A000001
WHK100010

From what I can see.

So the petrols would be 99-00, 01-02, 03-06 and the diesels up to 99 L series then from 01 TD4, i wouldnt have thought there'd be that much difference in the design of them since they'd all bolt into exactly the same place. Need owners of each model to get some photos me thinks, or all come down to my unit for some inspections (if people are local to me)

hiya

my cradle is also in a bad way and if the price was ok would also prefer to replace mine before it broke etc

may i ask a really stupid question, with regards to galv the new frame would there be any problem with electrolysis, etc against the tank or do you just put a rubber gasket in between

sorry to ask such a daft question

plus are the very easy to get out to inspect them properly please ,

is a lot involved getting them out

plus there is a breakers in kent that someone is looking into for me, in case we could pick up some decent second hand ones and also prices from fabricators etc and will let u know when i hear anything

thks again and please forgive me asking a daft question

I think the fool tank is plastic. Easier to get off if there's no fool fumes. You need to support the tank or you'll end up ripping the pipes oft it probably.

hiya

is it just a question of supporting the tank with a jack or axle stand then removing the frame and swapping obve please

has anything got to come out of the way before the cradle is replaced please

sorry again asking a daft question but u know me, lolol

There should be a foam pad between the cradle and the tank, this stops any vibration of the two together. As hippo said, the tank is plastic and therefore doesn't conduct electricity particularly well, although it could have a build up of static, another reason to have the foam bad.

The problem with breakers, is that most of the cradles are going to be 10+ years old, and therefore most will be shot already, or not really worth fitting to your vehicle to have to then replace again in a couple of years. Its also not worth saving one thats on its way out. Over time, fitting a completely new cradle would be the way to go, as in the long run it would save money.

You'll be able to inspect your cradle by lying under the car, my car is high enough that i havent even got to lift my car to see underneath it to my cradle.

Oooh ! Look what just showed up! :D
