Fuel System

Hi, i have a Freelander 2 TD4 GS 2009. Having issues with cutting out and starting.
Been told Throttle body needs replacing, and sender unit needs replacing.

Another garage told me throttle body being dirty (why other garage told me to replace) wouldnt cause it to cut out and not start. (Reduced Engine performance and throttle went unresponsive). I've also been told that the fuel pump in the wheel arch needs replacing, but this garage told me there isnt one which is why no mechanic has ever heard it running, and it relies on a vacuum system. First garage said replace sender unit. Second garage told me that faulty sender unit results in inaccurate fuel guage. I know if the ECU thinks the tank is empty that it will cut out, but my range reads 80 miles currently. Who is right and what should I do?? Thanks

Too many questions, and many answers.

An FL2 doesn't have a pump at the back of the car. The fuel is pumped from the tank to the high pressure fuel pump from a scavenger pump which is part of the HP pump. So ignore any references to a rear pump.

The EDC doesn't stop the engine when the tank shows empty, so ignore that rubbish information too.

The throttle body can stop the engine running, if the throttle plate is sticking shut. It's always worth cleaning the TB and intake, before replacing the TB.

With low fuel level on FL2 the engine will stop to prevent a total loss of fuel in the lines and in theory all you’ll need to do is add more fuel and away you go. Otherwise you’ll need to manually bleed the system.

Sounds like a throttle housing issue to me
