hi all

ive been trying to remove the sedimenter today with no luck, the pipes are rusted solid, ive tried everything cant budge them, i then removed the 11mm bolt on top, to remove the bowl and again the bowl is solid as a rock, anyone got any removal tips, as im worried i may damage it. also do the pipes have to be removed if removing the bowl?? if i can ever get it apart

atb

bypass it you have drain on filter anyhow, fit rubber pipe 8mm between sehder outlet passenger side one and inside pipe on chassis in front of sedimentor ,they let air in before fuel out

as other said bypass it . there a pain in arse, just change filter regularly.I do mine every 6 months

I undid the bolt on top and tapped the bowl gently with a rubber mallet, it worked but watch out as i got a face full of fuel when it did come free

I would agree BUT why did they (Landrover) put it in such a **** place

I completely agree with you - but hey ho that's Landy for you.

What seems even worse is that on TD5 they put the fuel filter behind the rear wheel - no chance of it getting covered by crâp is there????

I've broke the White plug thing at the bottom trying to undo it. I am thinking it behind the rear shocker on the inside of the chassis
You have to forgive me and be patient I'm still learning and stupid

For anyone/everyone reading this thread - NEVER EVER try to remove the white plastic tap. They always break !!!!!

Take the sedimenter bowl off by removing the 11mm bolt on top of the assembly then remove the bowl.

They ARE a handy bit of kit, albeit somewhat superceded by modern filters. If one REALLY wants one, bypass the one on the chassis and mount one in the engine bay.If you cant find room, theres plenty of smaller ones used on older lorry engines that you could use.The positioning is bloody stupid as is....am I right in thinking that 300tdi defenders go without?

sedimenters are only full of **** because ,you put **** in or they have collected in over 10 to 15 years without been emptied, a normal filter as is fitted is fine changed regulary and has drain for water too that isnt siezed as has not had to wait 10 years for someone to drain it

thanks for the replys guys, i will try tapping the bowl somemore and see what happens, i realise the bowl will be full, but will the tank empty due to not being able to remove the pipes and blocking them off, or is there a one way valve fitted???

tank hasnt emptied when I have done it.....but theres never much fuel in mine!

Just seen a pic of a multi filter set up with a regular filter,a heated filter and a sedimentor all in line on one fitting, sorry, cant repost it here. That,I reckon, would be the answer to having a sedimentor in a sensible place,a ready made, bolt on,in engine bay system.I couldnt see who the manufacturer was,the filters themselves were delphi.I know LR do a heated Bosch filter head for cold climates,it could well be a Bosch system.

In the years of owning and servicing lorries I found the fuel sedimentor to be a helpful thing, but they were (sometimes!) fitted in a place where you could see them at a glance and work on them without it being a major job.

I am looking at putting in some kind of fuel preheater before next winter as I often run the 300s on SVO mixed into diesel or finely filtered WVO and petrol.Coolant heated filter heads are present on a lot of vehicles in the scrapyard, hopefully I will find an electric one too that I can change the thermostat on.As I intend to do all this and site it in the engine bay I may as well try to get a sedimentor in too.If I can find one of the multis for decent money, all good.If not,it will be an old ford D series one - easy to see, easy to clean.

As said already , bypass it. If the pipes are that rusty there is a good chance the sedimenter is fooked. It will let air in and give you no end of trouble. They are about £50 to buy new and 1.5 metres 8mm fuel pipe will cost less than a tenner.

How do i bypass mine. The plug snapped off. And the nuts are rusted to hell so im goin cut the pipe. But want no if im goin lose all my fuel or will it be ok just raise them up n then slide the 8mm pipe over it n jubilee clip it
