He isn't. He says no fuel comes out at the bleed screw on the filter head, despite several attempts. He might have got fuel and air?

With a single tank, and the end of the pipe under the level of diesel in the tank, it should only pull in diesel, unless there is a crack in the pipe somewhere, in which case it will pull in air.I’ve twin tanks on mine with separate valves , the passenger tank is empty, I managed to turn slightly the lever on empty tank and it ran rough and would not rev , when I noticed and closed the valve the filter must have been about empty I assumed it was easier for the pump to pull in air than diesel
Missed the bit where he said the lift pump had been overhauled. In that case, I can only imagine he hasn't pumped it enough, or the lift pump is on the cam. I just don't see how you can get a problem with those, they are pretty simple. He may have got a mouthful of air and diesel I meant to say
As pump just been overhauled shouldn’t think it would split straight away
Putting a gravity feed to pump would prove pump ok if it primes and then prob with sucking air in
Very similar set up to standard Land Rover, except the Injector Pump is horizontal, not upright. On the series you first prime to get diesel coming out of filter then prime the fuel injection pump , I don’t know about the Perkins but @Turboman will
Big step forward though
When you are sure there is clear fuel coming from the bleed screw on the filter head, tighten the screw. Then leave it for a bit, come back, and loosen the screw, and pump again on hand primer. There will be a lot of air in the system if you have rebuilt it.Okay gents after an extremely cold, windy and stressful evening. I rebuilt the lift pump. Turns out the pump mechanism wasn't engaging and therefore not creating a vaccum. After reconnecting everything ( sigh ) there is now fuel getting to the filter. Feels like there is a lot of pressure and diesel is bubbling out of the top of the brass instrument i pictured. Ive cracked the injectors and turned the engine over and not diesel or bubbling is coming from injectors. Whats next ? Sorry if i sound like such a novice all my engine knowledge so far is petrol carbs. First time learning diesel
Not a problem. Glad you got it started.Hey guys i bled the main pump, cracked an injector and within 5 seconds she started ! God that is a great feeling. If you both message me your address i will send you some beers to say thanks !
