Evening chaps I'm looking for some help I've just changed both the fuel pump and filter now the dammed thing won't fire up.
I've cracked the injectors to check for fuel flow but no fuel to be seen any suggestions where I may have gone wrong? I'm pretty sure I fitted the filter in the same direction and the previous one but am now questioning myself. Has any one had this issue before?

Ah crap yeah that would help wouldn't it. It's the bmw motor 56 plate model
TD4 is all the information we need. It's unfortunate that the BMW turd got onto the Freelander at all, let alone be reminded of it;)

Have you checked the lift pump is running? Cracking the injectors will do little unless you are cranking the engine.
Why did you replace the lift pump?

With the ignition on I can hear the pump running.

The reason for the change was the previous owner filled the tank with petrol I drained the tank changers the filter and it idled fine but no power after 2k.
So stared again with a replacemt pump and another new filter but now nothing I cracked the injectors to check for fuel and there's nothing

Petrol will destroy the high pressure fuel pump if the engine was run for any distance.
I would check the high pressure regulator O ring first. The O ring is damage by petrol, so could be split. This would stop the engine from starting.
No power when revved could point to a high pressure pump failure.

You need to check the live data, once the engine is running.

Cheers nodge I'll check out the seal tonight. It was run on petrol/diesel mix for about 50-60 miles

Just baffles me how it can run all be it not great. Then changing the pump and filter now nothing. So much for a quick fix f***ing motors o_O

If it was run on petrol/diesel mix for 60 miles:eek:. I suspect that the high pressure fuel pump has had it. If you are lucky, you might be able to rebuild it. However petrol strips all the lubrication ability from the diesel. As the pump is lubricated by the diesel, I suspect the pump pistons and bores are shot.

Petrol causes lots of wear in a very short time. It's about the worst thing that can happen to a common rail pump.

It's not uncommon for the injectors to be damaged by the petrol and the microscopic metallic particles from the pump.

But check the high pressure regulator O ring first.

Little update the old girl is running turns out I had the pipes on the water separator cap round the wrong way.

Need to do a leak off test now as from cold it has a rough idle it's smoking a fair amount and stinks of unburnt fuel but at least it's running
