Hi this concerns all of us no matter what veichle you have today the cost of a Barrle of oil came down to 81 dollars a barrel (about 55 us gallons) the last time it was this price was a few years ago if I can remember correctly. And at that time price per ltr was about 88 pence so why o why are we paying as much as we do lets all get on to the goverment to do something at least what the garages are charging us!
 
God I remember when fuel was 88p per litre, I'd just started driving and me and my girlfriend were driving all over Dorset finding cool stuff toi do. Good times.

But now that they know that we're prepared to pay the current prices, why would they cut their margins just for us? They're probably trying to get us as close to bearking point as we can without sending the country into a state of collapse. Bastids indeed.
 
i remember first getting my freelander when diesel was cheaper than unleaded and my reason was to save money. Pretty much soon after than the prices sky rocketed.....for some reason they dont see cars as a necessity they just see it a way to rip joe public off!
 
The price of a barrel of crude is only a small proportion of the cost at the pump - the rest is tax by greedy politicians.

Fuel tax (Road Fuel Duty) and then VAT - we even pay tax on the tax!

Greedy bar-stewards doesn't even begin to describe it.

We even pay road fuel duty on the petrol for our mowers to cut the grass in our gardens.

As for the nostalgia of prices from by-gone days - well, well, that doesn't bear thinking about if you don't want blood-pressure to rise. :mad:

I remember filling up my first vehicle - an A35 van - a little green job - it cost me four shillings, sevenpence ha'penny a gallon!

That was for 'Regular' BP petrol - not the pricy 'Super' stuff which became known as '4 Star' - the extra tuppence was too expensive for me!

That's equal to just a tad over 5p a litre - work it out - I checked twice as I couldn't believe it.

Damn - now I'm going to be angry all day. :mad:

Here's today's list of international prices - I thought is was in alphabetic order at first - Algeria at the top and the UK at the bottom - but no - it's in order of ascending price.

You have forgotten the cost of refining the barrel of crude, the cost of distributing it, the cost of running a petrol station etc.

Expecting the pump price to vary in line with the price of crude is far too simplistic
 
diesel is still cheaper than petrol in s/ ireland why because some seat shinner decided that diesel was more harmfull than unleaded petrol then it was revield some year ago that it was not then only last week some seat shinner agin decieded this it was more harmfull again but the worse thing that ever happened was we we went into ltrs and not gallons any more it was to make you think it ws cheaper . Now the americans get all hot and bothered if it goes over 4$ a gallon we are a joke in this country we take anything and never stand up to what is our rights and by no way am I trying to start anything but I am just a bit fed up of being british and coming last

Very true, Richard - but I hadn't really forgotten about that - the cost of the whole thing - extraction, refining, transporting and selling it, is as nothing compared to the cut the greedy government take. I don't grudge the oil-workers or the truck drivers or the filling station owners their cut - but the profit the filling stations make is minuscule in comparison to what the government take from us.

It's much the same with the cost of a bottle of whisky - it's no more costly to produce than Coca-cola - but the duty and tax - wow! :(

thats nearly cheap enough for me to drive down and buy it. My local shell is still 143.9
 
yes indeed, unleaded is about 1.28 in the same garage. It's cheapest by far for quite a few miles.

Though I sadly remember it being about 78p a ltr not so very long ago

Big companies + stupid government trying to fix a somewhat broken economy = us poor drivers being shafted.
