Hi

I was wonder if there is a fuel gauge other than the standard one that will work with the original sender unit? (as mine orginal one has been replaced with a rev counter) Would a old smiths fuel gauge work? Any help would be great and if you have what I'm after please message me!

Thanks

if its an old smiths one from the same era most likely one out of an austin or any brittish leyland motor then it should work maybee a bit inaccurate but to get over that empty the tank and watch the needle rise as you fill it up with gerry cans noting where the needle is when the tank looks a quater full then half full 3/4 full then full just to make sure you dont end up empty in the middle of nowhere and the gauge says a quater :D:D:D

right had a chat with the old geezer over the street and hes confirmed that the fuel gauge i sent you a link for will work in a landy as long as you use a voltage ballast stabiliser from a landy wired in to the live coming out of the fuel sender unit to the gauge live input feed

its the small rectangle box thingy in the pic with the green wire on it

sorry lads its me fukkup it does go on the live feed i read the wiring diagram wrong :doh::doh:

but it should work with a universal or aftermarket fuel gauge to give an accurate reading by rights :rolleyes:

So would i have to buy a voltage stabiliser as well as the gauge? And would it depend on what unit (sender) I have on my fuel tank? Tommorow I will take pic of dash and the sender unit for you(as I have no clue)

look on the back of the dash if theres the rectangle thingy there you wont need to buy one ;););)

No you should be able to steal some regulated voltage from the old stabiliser. If you have a multimeter one side will be steady battery voltage and the other side will jump up to battery and down to nothing on and off regularly once or twice a second....thats the one you want.

Hi

I have now took some pictures here goes... Fuel sender

Ok by the looks of my stabiliser I need to put a 12v feed to it the take it to fuel gauge and then just put sender wire to other side of gauge?? I found a wire diagram is it really this easy

also how do I disconnect the speedo wire to get dash out? Unscrew or pull?? Cheers

on mine you have to squeeze the ring on the back and pull

caution these rings get brittle and so do the drive pin in the middle of the connector just be gentle and itll tease out without breaking

to gain better access to the back of the dash unclip the speedo cable from the bulkhead in the engine bay to give yourself some slack there was about 6" movement after i did this to mine :D:D:D

BTW the wiring is that simple as shown on the diagram :):)

Ok it's wired ready and I have made a new dial surround ready to house one the gauge is deliver here's a piccy

Put a fuel gauge in today and it's reading back wards I empty it and it reads full and then put 20 ish litres in and it reads 3/4s full (or 1/4 full if reading correctly lol) so I know its reading ok but the backwards thing what's that?

Cheers
