hiya

going to buy a new fuel filter, that goes behind me wheel arch and read up about how to replace it

got a price from bearmach that says it comes with a seperator or it doesnt

ref

wjn000080 with
wji10000 without

im going to assume its better to buy one with a seperator but will it fit ok please

tried to google for pics etc and found the fuel filter and pump on the tray but not about the seperator

may i ask is it indeed better to get it with

so sorry asking a daft question

im going to assume its better to buy one with a separator

hippo already has a separator a.f.a.i.k.
be called the 'sedimenter' in the haynes ..
separates water from the fuel .. and collects any heavy grit ..
( i.e. stuff that would sink .. )
there's a 'tap' under the body next to the fuel pump-filter assembly
one's supposed to drain it once a year .. ..
open the 'tap' and let fuel run out into a container .. untill the fuel runs out clean
i.e. no water / grit ..

water in the fuel is an injector/pump killer ..
( be why i use 'diesel rhino' fuel additive )

btw: don't know where the sedimenter is on vehicles with the filter in the engine bay
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
in anycase .. be interesting to see this filter with separator ..
would like to know where .. whatever it separates .. ends up being dumped
pic of wji10000
Land Rover Freelander Freelander 1 - Filters - Fuel Filters for All 2.0L TD4 diesel models Fuel Filter, Located in line, All 2.0L TD4 diesel models from OEM ::: SKU: WJI10000
which looks like the fuel filter for the f.filter-in-engine-bay vehicles
~~~~

pics of wjn000080 look like the filter from the fuel-filter-in-rear-arch vehicles

so when they say "with separator" ..
looks as if they mean 'hippo' model year with separator (sedimenter) as well
i.e. under the rear arch ..

although .. that implies that the engine-bay-fuel-filter vehicles don't have a water separator .. surely not ?? ..
i.e. i thought all diesels would be equipped with a water separator in line with the fuel filter ..

thks guys, that seems to make alot more sense now

so im now under the assumption that the filter i need is where the unit has a sedimeter and doesnt come with the filter but is designed to be fitted with a sedimeter or seperator fitted

were the other style is fitted under the bonnet and fitted on the older styled engine as mine being the later bmw engine and filter fitted under the wheel arch

thks again guys

LR changed the position of the fuel filter from engine bay to wheel arch part way through 2002MY.
VIN number is always vital for getting correct parts.
