Hi,

I'm hoping someone can please help.

I have a defender 90 200 (J reg) that in the last week is drinking diesel. It's just used nearly half a tank to do 40 miles. Not driven it any different to usual. At first I thought the fuel gauge was playing up but when I topped it up the other day the tank was nearly empty. Have checked and can find no obvious signs of a leak.

Hopefully you knowledgeable folk can help as this is costing me a fortune. If you need more info then please ask.

checked for any leaks??
:doh::doh:

hmmmmm.......maybe it a leak

Check for pin hole leaks in fuel lines, place paper all under the car, get it up to temp and rev the engine @ 2000 rpm for a few mins and check the paper for signs of a leak. Should be a fair leak with that mpg

Thanks

It gives me a few things to be trying. Ill let you know how it goes. Im working nights for the next few days so the reply might be at silly o'clock.

Hi Lilalb and :welcome2:

One of the first things to check might be your fuel return pipe. I had a similar problem a few years back, and it turned out to be that!

Mind you, it took a lot of finding ;);)

Hope this helps.

I was gonna say that, is yer return passing out somewhere.
Also check the fuel filler pipe, that goes from the filler cap tithe tank. The tank is very easily accessed by the rubber pipe that is secured by jubilee clips.
Maybe you have been siphoned, checkthe drain plug on bottom of tank. Might be a.......leak:lol:
Check yer fuel aint getting robbed, it's **** easy to nick from there. I know some cnut done it to me:mad:

Hi all

Latest update. I have checked the filler cap ands thats locked. Tried the paper test and found no leaks. The landy isn't parked near a pikey camp. I'll have a look at the filler pipe for any leaks and also check the drain plug again and get back to you in a bit.

Ok Drain plug and filler pipe (also checked the small one not sure what its called) have not been disturbed. Where would i find the fuel return pipe. Please excuse my ignorance it's my first landy.

Think we might be getting somewhere.

A slight pink tint when dipped with a peice of white paper. Just seen there is only about an inch in the bottem of the res. How full should it be? (a lot more than that i'm thinking). The note on the top just says fill to level but can't see any obvious fill to mark.
