If you have a wire brush for your drill then run it over the key edges like they due in a key shop, stop by a key shop (lock smith) and ask then to do it B&Q or some place like that

my key wont come out of fuel cap when the cap is off the car, checked on rave manual and this is correct, also says if not correctly seated in filler the key wont come out.are u sure its the right cap? petrol/diesel?

hi mick thanks for reply really apreciate it the caps not going into the neck properly thats why i think its not locking is there a difference if its deisel or petrol cap id imagine they all the same but mines a petrol cant vouch for the one iv bought ?

from past experience with diesel and petrol cars the nozzle gaps are different as to avoid missfilling. with some cars the cap is different but not sure about the f.l. have you got your old one to measure it against?

yes bud measures perfect but when it in place the key just refuses to turn as if the filler has fell through a bit as the plastic cover saying petrol only is flush at the bottom and 5 mm at the top bcause of the angle i dont know anyone else with freelander to check against and cant get the manual till the weekend lol

download the rave c.d and check the specks on there mate. i will have a look on my rave here as well and see if it mentions a dif in the size. i take it yours is the 1.8 petrol f.l 1. is it the facelift one? not sure if theres a dif on the fuel cap but a lot of the facelift stuff wont fit the older ones. if it looks like mine then its the pre facelift model.

cant see anything in the handbook about it just that the tube is a smaller size as its a diesel. does it sit flush with the side of the car when youve got it in? it should only fit one way and does look at a weird angle when you put it in but thats the way it sits flush. if diesels are dif then they should be bigger as the filler spout on a diesel is bigger. any chance you can take a pic on your phone and chuck it on and i will have a look at mine and see if theres any dif.

im in bristol if thats anywhere near you. just pop over if your close and we can try it on mine or if your far away chuck your town on and there will prob be someone near you. we do tend to get about a bit so there will prob be someone close.

thanks very much for the info taxii im in glasgow so bit far to jump over but i reckon its got something to do with the locking mechanism dont think the lock fitting in properly although its identical to the busted one iv tried swapping the insert of the cap incase any difference but all the same just need to wait till get the haynes i think but really apreciate all the help cheers
