Right i got my land rover Mot'd today and before i use it i have to sort out the fuel and temp gauges. Firstly my temperature guage sits at C, Until i turn on my ignition then it rises to N (even if the engine is freezing cold) It then slowly goes up to H as the engine warms.

Secondly the fuel gauge sits on E until i turn on the ignition and then rises to 1/4 of a tank (which is what i had) but today i filled it to the brim for the first time ever and it only went up to just over half where it stopped.

I took out my voltage regulator and swapped it for a brand new Solid state resistor but it has made no difference. It still does the same things

Can anybody help me with this problem

For the fuel gauge earth the wire at the sender end (under drivers seat) The gauge should go to full, if it does you may need a new sender (I did).
Try the same thing with the temp sender wire at the sensor end, with wire earthed gauge should read hot.

"solid state resistor" - do you mead regulator? You need a positive voltage regulator, either solid state or traditional bimetallic strip, providing 10 volts.

Sorry yes i do. I just brought one of ebay but im getting the same results as i did with the standard land rover one. I am unable to test my fuel sender as the seat i have fitted i have just realised is welded in :). Thanks previous owner.

When I earth the temp sender wire the gauge goes to hot and when i remove it completely it goes to cold. Do you think its the temp sender or the regulator?

You may be able to get the sender wire off and onto the terminal by taking the centre seat box cover out and reaching through...Can't remember if there is space off hand....
Do you have a volt meter? check that the reg gives out 10v then you can be pretty sure you will need to grind the welds off of your seat....:)

The gauge sounds OK, so it must be the bit wot lives in the head. New ones cost coppers and are easy to replace.

Any luck with the fuel tank sender?
