I,ve got a similar problem, engine uses small amount of water and can smell coolant when heater on hot, no water in footwell or in fan housing, in summer when I don't use the heater engine don't use no water. Summation very slight leak in the heater matrix I put some radweld in the system when I change the water and renew anti freeze evry Oct.
Check to see if yours is using water B 4 ya start stripping if it's not maybe one of the other causes sunroof seal, open window or 2 much testing of the back seat ! may be to blame.

I wouldnt use radweld on any hippoo - they is too prone to cooking as it is

not had any probs over the last 3 yrs mind you I do completely flush the system out every Oct may just be lucky ?

Thanks sheriff not sure if I wanted to radweld in heard it could block other water ways or something. I think it may be coming out where the pipes meet the engine compartment need to see if I can get to pipes but not sure if there is an easy way.

I am losing a little water so its coming out the system somewhere

yer,sod that. radweld is ****e, if you need to use anything use k-seal. it's much better and even makes the water all sparkly,oohhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Would tend to agree this is a likely cause, I had a screwed heater matrix with coolant leaking into passenger footwell. Had it replaced and no more misty window. Its a 4-5 hour job to replace though, most of the dash has to come out.
