Disco 2 Front wheel hub won’t come off

As title says, in the process of replacing front hubs 32mm hub nut is off and got caliper out the way, the 4 bolts holding the hub in place where a bi**h to get off and once I had I thought yes I’m on the home run.

now the hub assembly itself won’t come away... tried gentle persuasion with hammer and chisel but don’t going anywhere...

thought I’d take a 5 mins to ask on here before I break something lol

You won't like this, but this is how I did it yesterday and last week.
Take those four bolts you hate, clean em up and grease em if you fancy. slide them back in then bolt them partially into the hub. (Before you do that, as the holes they go into will be empty. you can stick some lubricant in there too).
Then smack the head of each bolt in turn, Spray the joint between the hub and the flange with freeing off liquid and give that a good belting too.
Keep going back and forth with the hammer.
The smacks on the bolt, will drive the hub out, eventually, just a fraction, so more freeing off liquid, and more hammering around the joint. Once it is out far enough, gentle levering with a pair of big screwdrivers or pry bars.

Ok I got it off!!

Few good whacks with hammer and chisel and it opened up a small gap.

then I did exactly as you said.

cleaned everything up, copper greased everything, but everything back together, connected ABS sensor. Proud as punch!

Then wait for it.....

take it for a test drive and after about 400 yards a horrible nasty spine tingly grinding/rubbing noise. Clearly metal on metal....???

stopped immediately and had a look underneath but couldn’t see anything out of place or wrong.

What could it be? Ived parked it in the shed and left everything where it is until the weekend lol

Could you have put a brake pad in the wrong way round?
I nearly did yesterday!
Chock wheels and put it in neutral. Jack the wheel off the floor, turn it by hand, see if you can see where it is coming from.
Take wheel off, investigate further.
Or.....
Could be the splash guard, or the bit of angled metal that holds the sensor wire away from the U/J.
At least the three amigos haven't come on!

When you got the hub, did it come with the sensor connected to the hub?
And what did the diagnostics tell you about the hub(s)?

did you disconnect the sensor at the hub and then put it back on, or did you feed the wire through the hole in the flange and then connect it under the bonnet?
 
No I didn’t have it to hand and just went for a quick spin to see if mechanically everything was sound, heard the grinding noise so turned around and drove home slowly.

Left everything where it was in the workshop and came inside for beer lol

Don't blame you!
As I understand it, the ABS ecu tests the wires as soon as you switch on, while the vehicle is stationary, and it should pick up a broken wire at that point.
If the sensor is not reading the signals from the reluctor ring as being within the parameters, it does this once the vehicle is on the move, and this can be for a number of reasons, one of which is a worn hub.
Although I have had to deal with this problem, (mine was on a rear hub) and I fixed it by changing the hub, I know that there can be a lot more to it than this. And I am not as good at electronics as others on here.

Well reasonably clean but not spotlessly, I guess!
I have just taken both front half-shafts out to change the steering knuckle boots. I kept things reasonably clean, but i didn't go mad. I just made sure there was no dust or loose rust there.
you can tell if the hub is back on properly cos the joint is so tight up together, there are no gaps.
You can't have disturbed the splines at the far end of the shaft, as you undid the hub nut and presumably just left the shaft in there.
Doubt you damaged the CV joint.
Calliper carrier and disc went back on properly I guess.
Think you just need to get the wheel in the air and take it from there.
Get a good night's sleep, you may think of something after that.
Also you can get the Hawke out, clear the codes and do another read to see what it says if anything.

I had exactly the same issue when refitting one of my front hubs. It turned out to be a badly made hub that was rubbing on the inside of the brake disc housing. So new hub was required (company I bought it from took it back and swapped it) and it only left a slight scoring on the disc housing - not on the braking surface so that didn’t require replacing

“Hopefully” it’s that as while it’s a pain it’s far less serious than other options

Could very well be... I can’t say that u purchased the most expensive hub option available

let’s see when I get the wheel off later
 
Right, all taken apart and serious play in the new hub already!

took it off and it’s knackered!!

so got me thinking what could it be, pulled the half shaft out (front passenger) and all looks good on the splines...

Now the next issue... I can’t get the half shaft back into place!

won’t go past here

if the shaft nut is left loose that will bugger wheel hub very quickly,rust in the swivel housing isnt really an issue
 
Pretty confident the hub nut was tight as I could get it with 4ft breaker bar and 32mm socket

any ideas on this half shaft not going in?
