I would like to fit a tow bar to the front of my 96 300tdi disco(no bull bar) to make launching & retrieving my boat easier on long narrow slipways. (I have done this on series landys in the past by just bolting directly into the front bumper) I realise this is not possible on the disco. Do I need to fit a special bumper or is there a bracket available ( possibly that bolts onto the bumper mountings?) that I can attach a tow ball to
I look forward to your replies & bow to your knowledge of everything Landrover.

Thanks in advance

as advised by guys on this forum bolted tow ball directly to bumper with spreader plate at back used 6mm plate approx 8" long and use this to push and pull a 1.5 ton of caravan up a slope and find it superb especially
as it is over to the side give wicked visabillity

I have done a search for front tow balls & found a company that makes a special mounting kit for £160. Lazydog has used a spreader plate & bolted straight through the bumper. He says that it gives good visiblity as it"s to the side so I take it that he has mounted it in front of the bumper mounting. I need to mount in the centre of the bumper. Do you think it would be strong enough if I used the same method. ie. spreader plate & bolt straight through. The total weight I want to move around is about 1500kg, maybe a little less. The special mounting kit involves cutting the bumper which I don"t want to do. My other option would be to fit a bullbar & mount the tow ball on that.
Cheers

I know there is a kit about but have heard/read about the off road guys making there own because you need to mount centrally IMHO i dont think a spreader will work accross the 2 bumper mounts could you not adapt a rear tow bar i woul of thought the chassis width would be similar somewhere on here is a picture of a diy version sorry i cant remember where good luck

I don"t really want to cut the bumper & it would be nice if it was removable. Apparently David Bowyer does a detatchable front tow ball but I"ve been on his site and can"t find anything! Unless anybody on here can help will give him a ring tomorrow.
By the way I have ordered an EGR blanking plate & have just read on another thread that I also need a new top hose. Is this correct?
Thanks for all the advice

I have a Watling front towbar on my TD5 Disco 2.

It is great for shoving trailers around.

Fitting was easy - TAKE THE FRONT GRILLE OFF FIRST!!!!!

They didn't mention that part when I bought mine, and fitting was going to be a pain - till I realised that three plastic things out takes off the grille, and the rest of the job is done in less than an hour easy.

I had NO cutting to do. It just fitted.
