Hey all,

Our D3 has the irritating feature of lowering itself to the ground (by opening the EAS solenoids) when the ignition is turned off and the doors are looked. After a few seconds. Its done it ever since we bought it and it gets on my pips. It only takes a couple of seconds to pop back up when started, but id rather just get going.

I haven't noted others doing this

1st world problem I know....

Is it in some silly mode that I can disable somehow?

I think if you hold suspension switch down it locks it in access mode. You can drive off with it in access mode it'll raise automatically after a certain speed is reached.

Next time you get in, raise it to normal height using the switch, should unlock then.

Have you got a handbook?

Hi

Have u measured the heights yet , put suspension into normal height ,engine running , drop ur drivers window then close the door , then measure from the centre of the wheels to the bottom of the wheel arches , should be

Front 465mm
Rear 485mm

if u press the 3rd Land Rover button in ur remote what does it do plse , thks

Make sure the DSC button isn’t disabled, u would see a light as well on the dashboard as that controls the crossover

As soon as the engine is turned off do u hear a hiss

Please let us know how u get on as there’s other things to try, just trying to establish a base line first , thks

No hissing when engine turned off, just opens its solenoids after being locked. Only seems to drop the fronts though?

3rd button opens the boot

Heights are correct to within a couple of mm

Does get suspension fault after driving for a while, u0122 & c1130

Hi

Many thks for the info, how weird just the front drops like that when the key is turned off and with the exhaust not hissing I’m wondering if there’s a leak

Also The valve block system uses earths to switch so wondering as the key is turned off if it looses the earth and solenoid thinks to open

Have u tried putting the vehicle into off road height , then pulling fuse F26 , leaving it over night to see if it drops

Does ur diagnostic able to see what the compressors pressure is plse

Plus here’s a full suspension pdf data sheet which u may find useful

http://media.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/userpics/15405/Land Rover factory D3 air suspension description.pdf

Will also do some more digging to see if I can an answer for u

Ref ur faults codes , ones starting with a U can normally be ignored ,

Parking Brake
U0122-87 (EB) Lost communication with vehicle dynamics control module - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message

C1130-66 - Air spring air supply - Algorithm based failure - Signal has too many transitions/events.

This one normally signifies you’ve got a leak , can use some soapy water , but pulling the fuse overnight can identify which corner is dropping as it won’t self level

Hope that helps a little , plse let us know what happens with the overnight drop test , thks

So can then move through the system step by step with different tests , I had to virtually rebuild my entire suspension system so picked up a bit of knowledge along the way

So between all of us should find an answer

Hi @vilguy

Just found some more info ref the fault code

DTC:
C1130

Description:
Air Spring Air Supply

Possible cause:
Repeated or frequent level activity in the up direction
Air spring leak
Air harness leak
Exhaust valve stuck open
Corner valve leak to gallery

Action:
Visually inspect the system for air leakage.

@vilguy

Well, well well, I wonder if urs is still locked in transport mode ????

Transportation Mode
Transportation mode is a factory set mode which locks the suspension to enable the vehicle to be safely lashed to a transporter. Transportation mode can only be selected or deselected using T4.
When the ignition switch is switched off, the vehicle will be lowered onto the bump stops. This ensures that the securing straps do not become loose should air leak from the air springs.
When the engine is running, the air supply unit will operate to raise the vehicle height, allowing the vehicle to be loaded. When the ignition switch is subsequently switched off, the vehicle will again lower onto the bump stops. An audible warning will be emitted from the instrument cluster sounder until the vehicle has reached the higher transportation height.

Fair play to you mate, you dont half do some digging! Ive pinched that suspension pdf, you're like a mine of info :p

Shucks ur make me blush, lol

I really do enjoy searching and trying to help where I can, since I’m laid up I might as well make myself useful , lol

How very dare u pinch that pdf , lmao , good job I don’t leave any more laying around to be stolen ,

Lmao you're showing off now! Pinched em though :D

Are the eBay items good to have with D3 then? I have got pretty comprehensive breakdown cover but anything that can keep you in the road while you're sorting repair is good. D3 airbags are generally pretty strong aren't they? Not as prone to leaks as D2 and p38?

That’s just a little bit of info I’ve stored over the years on the iPad , Lmao

Only time I’ve never helped is when there’s no please or thank u , same with many of us here who won’t help if someone doesn’t have basic manners and appreciates the help

Also have the full breakdown cover but I got them as indeed back up items, so can use the small t max air compressor if needs be , or for testing lines etc ,just having them stored in the boot hardly takes up any room , along with some 8-6-4mm plastic pipe and pushfit couplings , for the what if whilst off road scenario

When I replaced my front struts they were the originals so was very impressed of how well they done , plus having a protective metal casing makes them quite sturdy

Spot on cheers mate. I'll check them with the soapy water, don't have a T4, just a hawkeye.

The park brake is disabled at the minute until I get around to fixing it (usual problem) so thatll be that signal.

Always a pleasure to help

Sounds like u have a combination of faults seeing the dtc codes have come up

If u post on here and the D3 forum there should be someone near u that has an iid and can check if urs is still in transport mode

Found an empty spray bottle ideal with soapy water or one of the weed killer pump up bottles that have the Lance so can get in restricted areas, , also better using a Lance than ur arm under the suspension system as u know it does and will drop without any warning if it does a self level check

Also a favourite spot to leak is on the right hand side of the compressor , on the dryer cap where there’s 2 x pipes, i between them can get a hairline crack

Ive always placed some axle stands for the what IF

Wonder if ur Hawkeye will tell u ref the transport mode, as I feel that’s one of the first things to check to save u having to mess around

Ur EPB there’s some companies that rebuild them, or if u wish to do it urself and it’s just the gears can buy those separately

Plse let us know how things go

Plus this is the diagnostics to go for , know there around £420 but will pay for itself very quickly

https://www.gap-diagnostic.com/products/iidtool/

It allows u to reflash and update all the 25 x ecus , adjust all ur suspension the list goes on and on , back up service is second to none , they are a Canadian company and simple email always gets a reply within 24-48 hours

Hi @vilguy

Out of curiosity have u got the infotainment satnav screen in the centre console plse

What year and model is it, auto/manual

Many thks

Will try the hawkeye over the weekend, just got the reverse light working for the first time since we bought it - did the xyz recalibration

It's a 2004 manual 's' model so no centre console screen

Cheers for the info and plse let us know how u get on

Want to see if it’s still in transit mode , hopefully the Hawkeye will work , happy days getting the reversing lights working

Is it a real S, or in incorrectly badged 7 seater? There were some 7 seaters badged as an "S' from the factory, but the 7 seater was a lower spec than the proper 'S'. Not that it helps with the suspension issue.
