Bit of a mystery. I ordered a pair of FTC4320 stub axles, and the parts book tells me that they're right for a 1989 110 with rear drums. The new parts arrived and are about 20mm too long.

Three possibilities:-

I've read the parts book wrongly.

Parts book is wrong

Supplier has sent the wrong things in the right boxes.

Ideas?

I think they should be FRC4320

Doh. I meant FRC4320. Well spotted.

FRC4320 is what the book says, and what I ordered. Won't fit though. Original on the left, new on the right.

I can't find (online and free) an earlier parts book than the 1987 Model Year version printed it 1994, but I keep coming across FTC3183 which looks right, but is superseded by FTC3154 which is supposed to be for later cars. I'm going to have to call in the Cavalry. @jamesmartin - a man who I'm going to have to buy a (non virtual) pint.

It would seem that somebody has fitted a non-standard part to my 110 - who'd have thought it? It's an FTC3154 which wasn't fitted until 1994 - five years after it was built. The strange thing is that they'd have had to change the hubs too.

have you a pic of the wheel station ,what width are the radius arms, its likely you have a later axle fitted

Slim radius arms James - pretty sure it's the original axle going by the serial number and the fact that it had Raiko bush non ABS swivel housings. Pics of the car as it was were lost to a power surge unfortunately.

prior to 300 the longer cv stub axle and wider hubs were used so if not the whole axle at least those parts

Oh crap. Thanks James, read that and went out and checked the new cvjs that I've had waiting on the bench for months. Too long, so I've opened up the package of stuff that's going back.... If I had a spare pair of wider hubs lying around it would have been quicker to swap the new bearings/seal over and use them.

This axle - the modifications that I've made to it, and now the wrong ends, has been the hardest part of the whole rebuild. I've made several mistakes but I couldn't have imagined this happening!

That saved me a headache! They're ordered and on their way tomorrow.

Can this mean that the chassis might actually roll next week? Watch this space for the next thrilling etc.....

Thanks James.
