Heya guys, my front prop shaft has sheered again thismorning for the 3rd time in a year!!! Its the gear box end and it keeps sheering so that it breaks the metal and i jave to replace the whole prop shaft..... Any ideas as to why it keeps doin this??? It only sees vsry light off road use and i dont tow anything big. I think ive got a bit of pick up play in the gear box but nothin major and the back prop is unafected.

And just so i know how far is it safe to drive with only one prop shaft usin diff lock?

Many thanks chris

drive as far as you like, its fine (but slightly unpleasent IMO)

something must be really wrong to shear props like that, they aint cheap pattern ones that come in a blue box are they?

Is your Land Rover stock? Or are there modifications?

I would send the prop back. First I would contact Britpart, get through to someone who will listen (I know your contract is with the supplier) and explain to them what is happening. Tell them you are so unsatisfied you are really worried about all the Britpart stuff you have on your Landy and are quite worried at the apparent lack of quality. Ask do they know if they had a bad batch, this gives them the benefit of the doubt.

They MAY ask you to send it in to them in return for a new unit - I have had this a number of times now and it's a good way to do business. The key is being polite. If they are useless and will not help you then start going for trading standards, get a case number from them and go for it big time. These components are NOT fit for purpose. You really ought to have 3 refunds if you still have them all.

Unless of course you have done something stupid with your set up. Also, is it the right prop?

My britpart rear prop sheared off at the yoke and that was only 4 months old and hadn't seen any off-road or heavy use whatsoever. Was also dry as a bone despite me greasing it before it went on and greasing it again two months in  won't be buying a ****part prop again that's for sure

Yeah its all stock, havent touched anything suspension wise or lifts etc... Mine was dry as a bone to and i do grease everythih regular aswell. Think im just gona take this as a lesson and avoid britpart like the plague!

And i am defenetly fine to drive around usin the difflock with only one prop for the next cpl days..... Just remember hearin somethin about it causin windup in tje gear box or somethin a while ago, probaly got it wrong lol

only if you do it with both props on, one prop is fine, theres nothing to wind up...

Yes, but bear in mind it will put more stress on the prop/axle being used, so no speedy starts.

Yes lol took the broken bit off soon as it happened.... Was fun layin under the motor on the side of a main road thismornin at 6! Ive taken a cpl pics on my fone but cant figure out how to post em on here???
