Yes, it was the offside that I changed and it seems to be as you turn to the left that the noise happens. I'll need to check again tomorrow more carefully as I was spitting feathers that it hadn't cured the problem.

Did you check the offside rear??

Nope - noise if definitely coming from the front but will double check all four corners tomorrow

They were all OK at the MOT - the noise is "rotational" - i.e. sounds like something graunching as it turns - that's why I wondered if it was the CV joint? - Unless of course I've completely ballsed up installing the new hub

Are you getting any dash warning lights. What you are describing sounds like hub issues.

Yep - 3 amigoes in amber, will be checking nearside hub tomorrow too as well as rechecking the offside one that I did today

My moneys on the other hub goosed. Or you have done something wrong on the one you have fitted. Could be a dodgy hub you got.

An update: Just checked the nearside hub bearing - it's clunking just like the offside one was! Time to buy another new hub.

I done mine last week I used a scaffold pole take off and put back on hub nut I did buy a 6 inch 3 leg puller as the one I had was not big enough. once it was off it all went back on quickly I put a OEM one on so only time will tell if it was a good investment but I now need to have 3 amigos reset so if anyone knows of someone near Cardiff that can switch off these as I'm not a fan of letting garages loose on my disco. to take off hub nut I did use axle stand under small extension bar because breaker bar was to close to car and easier to take centre cap off wheel put back on and put land rover back on ground if you are doing the job by yourself.

You're right there - a mixture of slightly hacked off and relieved to have identified the problem.

The 1" drive socket set did the job for me, I got my replacement hub from JGS. Initially tried with the wheel on but had more success with it removed and someone else putting the brakes hard on. Got a 6" puller which did the job nicely.

Hopefully the second one will go more quickly than the first now I've got half an idea what I'm doing.

I'll add a few bits I've picked up doing the job myself once I've done the second hub.

The second hub, the nearside one, came off much more smoothly than the first. I managed to get the hub nut undone first time with the 1" breaker bar that the bloke up the road lent me. I heated the hub stake nut first with a propane torch and then gave it a dose of plus gas.

I've still got the three amigoes in amber despite travelling a mile or two and switching on and off a few times, the ABS works fine.

Should the amigoes turn off themselves or will I need to get it plugged in to a tester to clear them?

You'll need the lights reset AND drive up the road before they go out (abs in particular)

Thanks, wasn't sure what to expect - when I replaced the offside hub the lights went out on their own - before coming back on a few miles later as the nearside hub gave up the ghost.

Will have to drive six miles or so to the local indy dealer to get the lights reset so that should do the job one way or the other.

Fingers crossed it's all fixed and I haven't worn anything else out!

Sounds good mate. Get it reset and all will be good I think. Peace of mind......until the next job. It's all character building.
