Having a frustrating time with 1986 110. Pads and calipers changed both sides (and annoying broken brake pipe). All back together with both front wheels jacked up. front passenger side rotates fine but drivers side wont turn at all. Drivers side did turn as had to stop it rotating when putting drive flange back on. Now with shims and circlip back the hub wont rotate at all on drivers side.
110 has an auto box from a discovery 1, dont think cdl is on as ive driven it for years with no issues. First question, should both hubs rotate with the front jacked up, second, if yes then why would one hub lock up?

ta, ian

Both hub's should rotate,if the prop is held still both wheels should turn one going forwards one backwards [diff doing its thing] Does the wheel turn some or is it solid?

thanks....wheel that wont turn is solid i.e. no play. I'll take take off circlip and flange tommoz to see if its the hub or cv

You don't mention fitting new discs, possible that the new pads are gripping the old discs on the crud ring / outside of the wear track of the old pads?

Good thinking, but all new discs, calipers and pads....havent bled the calipers yer so pads still loose. bearings and races were all good so put back in, new lock washers. had to give the flanges a good bash as some previous Muppet cut down the flange bolts to fit alloys....now all new flange bolts and gasket.

ok, so further investigation......taken off flange and cv rotates fine but hub wont rotate. so its not the cv. loosened new caliper and hub now free to rotate. checked the new caliper bolts and they arent long enough to foul the disc. pushed caliper in all directions and hub will still rotate. as soon as i do the last few turns of tightening the hub locks up.....cv still rotates........i'm stumped....any ideas?

Final tightening of the bolts might be causing some distortion. Possible contamination between the calliper and its mating faces on the axle, or badly machined calliper. Can you hang the new calliper out of the way and remount the old calliper and check if the old calliper causes the same problem?

old caliper causes the same problem. disc looks central in the slot. used old caliper bolts and only with final tightening with torque wrench locked the hub. taken it all apart again down to the stub axle to check everything over again. other side went all back on fine with new caliper, disc and caliper bolts.

yep, no pads in and locks with final tightening of caliper bolts. starting to rain so turned to the liquid mental lubrication....

Just noticed in an old parts catalogue that the caliper bolts have spring washers....werent any when i took it out....i think. anyone else put spring washers on the caliper bolts?
