hi all
got a 3 door comercial van td4 on a 02 i need to remove the front plastic head linning as i need to replace the arieral so am going to reroot a new areial cable. also anyone no how to get the radio out with out the special tool its only the basic radio casttete one many thanks

If its the radio type with two holes each side, use something like a wire coat hanger to stick in the holes to release the clips. Not sure about the head lining sorry.

If it has the DIN fixings remove the plastic covers to expose the holes and insert some welding rod or similar into the holes and push them until they snap in place and release the two catches. Slide the radio out.
If it doesn't have DIN fixings insert an allen key into the holes and unscrew them.

just been out and looked covers was off no cvers on there so now just got to cut a coat hanger and get it in the hole nice

The correct tool for removing the radio consists of two "U" shaped metal rods with a pinched groove at each point. Halfords do them for £4.99 (part code 130922-0) and are a useful thing to have in a tool kit. Alternatively there is a set from Screwfix which works on a number of different cars, my Becker sat nav came out with the Mercedes keys.

You might even be able to blag your way to a local car hifi shop to release it for you.

The single hole type I think may be an allen key, if when you poke the rod in it comes to a solid stop then this is most likely. According to the Rave disk it should be a 2.5mm one

It is definitely an allen key for the philips c42 head unit, which was the standard fitment to the commercial, I know for I have the commercial and have had my radio out a couple of times.

just keep undoing each side until it's all really loose, then pull out by putting your fingers in the tape slot and pull the whole unit straight towards you.

good luck.

The headlining should just unclip from the roof once all the handles, sunvisors, lights etc have been removed. Also move the sealing strips out of the way.

woah woah woah. no need to take the head lining all the way down. pull off the rubber strip round the front of the sunroof (obviously inside the vehicle), then undo the screw(s) which are in the little pocket above. You should be able to get the cable across from the middle of the roof to the door pillar trim. the door pillar trim simply but carefully unclips and pulls off so you can route the cable down that way, pref. passenger side so you don't have to cross sterring column. then route into space behind dash and up to radio.

used this route for microphones when fitting handsfree kits, never failed me yet.

good luck.
