One fog light got water at some point and glass etc is rusty. Has anybody successfully split, cleaned and re-assembled a front fog light. I read in a car magazine about heating the light in the oven to soften the glue, then splitting and cleaning. Am dubious and would like to know if anybody has done this with success ?

mine were full to the top with orange rusty water when i got it, i had the same idea you did, but when i took them off to do it i found that the metal backs were coroded beyond repair so have a look. I ended up geting some really cool Landrover original fog light "pods" that fit over the area the lights are but protude a bit, they look much better than the sunken fogs and give the front end a slightly more modern look. Found em on ebay for £55 delivered, took about 30 mins fitting. of ask the breakers on ebay for 1.

If its only the lense that is discoloured, then you could have a go using a dremel with come polish from merguires

It work on me headlights me estate car:D, but if there are corroded, then ditch them and get some from flee bay or breakers

Give it a go, what have u got to loose

I separated one of my front fogs about a year ago with a sharp blade as it was full of water. Cleaned it up and stuck it back together with silicone sealant. Been working fine since I did it.

If it were me, I would take them off. For the 1 day per year when they can be legally used, there's little point.

Use them when it's not foggy and (1) everyone else thinks you're a prat (2) you don't know what the switches do (3) the coppers stop you and breathylise you.

Highway code rule 226: You MUST use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres (328 feet). You may also use front or rear fog lights but you MUST switch them off when visibility improves (see Rule 236).

How often do you REALLY drive when vis is less that 100m ?????

Take em off and save cash!
