Ok so all my metalwork is going off for galvanising tomorrow so I thought I would get the hinges done as well. My question is there is a lot of play in the hinges so can you get new hinge pins?
I would have just bought new hinges but have been told the new stuff is rubbish quality compared to the old stuff.

Thanks.

Norrie.

The new ones are not as good as the old ones in that they do not last as long. However if your old ones are badly worn it tends to be the casting that wears as well as the hinge pin so just replacing the hinge pin will not remove all the play. In that case you are better off getting new hinges. And you can get galvanised ones new for not a lot of money.

That’s a bummer. Nothing is repairable these days. I prefer the rear door hinges which are fully rebuildable.

Replace them with series 2/2a hinges then. They are the same design as the rear door hinges so are easy to rebuild.

I'm wondering if the galvanizing will take up the play in the hinges. I will find out when I get them back.
Norrie.
