Hi
cursing my good fortune find that I had to remove the alternator to fit the upper damper bolt- there wasn't one in vehicle when I purchased it- I was faced again with the problem of compressing the bottom bushes to fit the split pin. In the past I used a steel yoke and "g" clamp, but with a slightly small washer I found my wife was unable to hold the yoke still as I tightened the screw.
So I made a tool, which was cheap (pence) and fast to make (2 minutes)
Take 50mm of 25mm square section with1.5mm walls (approx.) cut out the centre 25mm , 12mm deep, and Hey Presto- a cheap effective tool. Simply centre the tool over the post, use a jack handle against the inside of the swivel and PUSH!
Why I never did this before I really don't know.
