Hi
I have a series 3 SWB1974 that I have rebuilt onto what I believe to be a military 2a chassis. I' trying to fit my existing front bumper but the holes don't line up, they are nearly 1cm out to the centre.
Would the military bumper have different mountings?
.

Thanks for the reply. I've found some measurements & my front chassis rails are 7mm out (to narrow). Was wondering the best way around the problem? It doesn't, appear to have had a replacement x member. Any suggestions?

Does it have a replacement front dumb iron, or any signs of accident damage, or twist? That far out, if it were twisted, there would be stress fractures on the side of the chassis, so check for that. Though a bumper was fitted before i assume?

My new Richards chassis would not take the front bumper from my SWB. ****ed off, I thought Richards had made a balls of the chassis. I tried another bumper I'd got for my LWB and it popped on no problem! It would be interesting to find out if someone has the "official" measurement for centre to centre bumper holes. I suspect that neither chassis nor bumpers were made that accurately...

I took the measurements from my genuine Landrover Service Manual. It states that the measurement between the 2 inside bumper fixing holes should be 66.3cm, and the chassis rails should be 78.7cm. My chassis is 65.5 & 78 respectively. I bought the chassis about 3 years ago & had it shot blasted, it was in really good condition, only having a new rear crossmember fitted previously. There was no other sign of any welding, so no it has not had new dumb irons. I need to take some more measurements. It's a shame I didn't measure it before I fitted it up! Everything else fitted OK. I wondered if it were possible to stretch the front chassis rails out slightly? Obviously I need to find which chassis rail is out.

You could probably, carefully, part the two sides out slightly with a high lift jack, just like you do when you're reinserting the g/box x member on a 90/110/130/disco/rangie/watevs

I've swapped military and civvy bumpers about without issue.

3.5mm out each side? Well within Land Rover tolerances :)Nothing a jack or even a pry bar won't sort shirly?

Thought I'd try using a high lift jack to spread it slightly. Checked the rest of the chassis - all OK, it's just the nearside front dumb iron that's out. If that don't work I might make my own bumper to fit.
