Does anyone have a close up pic of how the front apron panel and bumper fits?
Does the apron fit separately to the bumper or does it sit on top of the brackets for the bumper? I take it the front just gets screwed to the chassis with self tappers?

Aint a clue. Mine is held on by two bolts through bent bits of ally attached to the front panel brackets and a bent welding rod at the front. :oops:
 
From memory (currently away) Mine does not attach at all at the front to the bumper and is held on by two bent brackets. If you still need them I can get some picture next weekend when I am back home.
 
I think that it should be held by two self tappers into the chassis though I've had a series where the apron was just trapped by the bumper at the front

If that is the case that would explain why mine has never had anything at the front. You do not put self tappers through a galv chassis.
 
Mine has an ammo box there as the apron was missing (it used to have a winch). There's one size of ammo box that is a near perfect fit and can double up as a numberplate mounting.
 
If the Series Parts Catalogue, page 2G05 (last page!) is anything to go by, the 395459 front apron panel top seems to be attached to the 347955 radiator grille panel with a total of two 78796 special screws (0,25" UNC x 0,5"), two WM600041L spring washers and two 3900L plain washers. The front apron panel bottom is attached to something with a total of two 78795 special screws. The drawing does not indicate what that something is. The sides of the front apron panel are supposed to be fitted with a total of four 319877 rubber buffers on the sides. Unfortunately, there is no indication whether the 78795/6 screws are self-tapping or not, but it does hint at it since no metal or plastic nuts are mentioned.
 
I cut a couple of little squares of steel and used them to trap the apron down with the front bumper. One is now missing and the other is loose. There are holes in the apron, presumably for self-tappers but I didn't fancy using them like that.
 
Yeah I have the brackets that mount to the rad panel but unsure about the front edge. There is 2 holes in it so I assume it's for self tappers. It's just with the bunowr in place there didn't seem to be enough room for the apron to sit flat. The apron was missing when I got the car and my rad panel isn't very straight as it's had a repair.

Mine has four mounting points. Two off the radiator panel on bent brackets and two tap directly into the dumb iron.

Mine is the same as that but does not have the front screw fitted into the dumb iron. It works perfectly well like this and does not vibrate or rattle. So would say the screw is not essential if you do not want to drill into a new chassis.

The bent welding rod is optional but I have a durty great spot lamp bolted to mine so it’s important I don’t botch it. :D:D

The bits that have the hole to dumb iron are missing on mine as it needs to fit round the great dollops of welding holding both the front bumper on and a couple of uge tow loops. :oops:

I will have another look at it. I think because it’s had so much welding etc nothing quite fits as it should. I’ve already ground bits off the bumper so it fits on the chassis. Lol.
