Just found the ultimate mate detector.Tell them you are going to try and replace your clutch in your disco 1 200tdi while it is parked up on the street outside your house and you are going to try doing it by moving the gearbox backwards as i have seen in several articles on here.Its amazing how many are busy or just dont reply even though beer will be offered lol.
On a serious note having never tackled a clutch before what exactly do i need to do everything so hopefully wont have to do it for a long long time.Obviously a clutch (heavy duty or standard, i tow a little but no serious off roading), a fork as i think this is what has gone.Owt else.

My advise, heavy duty clutch and heavy duty fork too.

Are the britpart clutches not AP driveline, which in turn are Borg & Beck, which are perfectly good...?

Take the engine out much easier , bonnet off pipes and wires off , rad out lift, do it in 5 hours easy on side of road with hoist, done it more than once

Well started alone today.Propshafts off (why you need a special tool 9/16 ring and open does fine).gear box brackets all loose just started on bell housing now cracked the 4 that are easy to get at.Bit of r and r now as i got to go to work till 4.30 am but will get back on it tomoz at 10.

To get the top bolts, remove the gearbox mounts and lower it really far down, and now with the engine tilted back you can get enough room to get the top bolts (with a 12" extension iirc)

It is easier to take the engine out than the gearbox out though!!

Undoing the top couple of bellhousing bolts is a pain. Better if you have an assistant to hold the socket on the bolt while the person under the car undoes it.

If you're going for engine out, remove entire engine mount, drop engine as low as it will go and it makes it MUCH easier to get at them, espacially with above mentioned assistance.

Didnt find the bolts too hard to get at in the end.Got the box free and sat on xmember cant see what the problem is so going to put whole new clutch and fork in and hope this cures it.
