Hello, i'm new here and my freelander is driving me crazy by not driving nor starting. It will only start if i spray something into the intake. According to other treats this might be a injector problem. I have a launch scanner and i see when starting about 8800 .. and when running about 28000.. on fuel pressure. If the wiring to the sensor is not connecting properly will it give a good reading to the scanner. I have renewed the fuel pressure sensor, the switch on the hp fuel pump and the fuel filter. When the car starts it will run a while and then drop in speed as if it is not getting enough fuel. When the key is turned to the on position i hear the low pressure fuel pump and if i remove one of the return tubes fuel comes flowing out of it. I will take the injectors to a specialist to test them, any other ideas where to look are greatly appreciated
 
what model is you freelander I take it it is the td4 or earlier diesel by you squirting stuff into the inlet can you hear the main fuel pump pumping
 
Do you have p1260 as well?

You could do injector leak off test yourself, i'm sure you'll of read this in the other threads.

Also when checking the condition of the fuel rail pressure sensor it might help to fiiddle with the connection while taking pressure reading to see if it fluctuates. A poor connection will affect the reading to ecu and the scanner.
 
Mine is a 2004 with the TD4 engine. It has the low pressure fuel pump in the rear wheel well. Thanks for your reply. I will shure let you know what the outcome is
 
changed all 4 injectors and the car starts perfectly. the new challenge is to find out why there is a lot of black smoke coming out of the exhaust
 
thank you for your quick reply. today i will chnge all the old diesel. it now trows code as p0200 and p0263 which acording to other treads indicate bad fuel and or pvc. the thing is that i can't find the pvc on the 2007 TD4
 
If it's a 2007 freelander then it should be a freelander 2 and this does not have the BMW TD4 engine. Unless it was old dealer stock when first registered.
 
i checked the papers and it is indeed a 2004. on the forum i found where the pcv is located. i'm eager to go plat with it
 
grrhhh, i cleaned the pcv filter since i ordered a new one and it will take a while before i receive it. I think i did a good job with it. a lot of dirt came out. emptied the fuel tank, the fuel had a cola like color. refueled with good quality diesel. also checked all the air for cracks, not one found. also cleaned the MAF sensor. i noticed that the pipe that goes from the filterhouse to the turbo seemed a bit loose. since it goes underneath i didn't check if it is cracked. can this pipe give problems. I still have lots of black smoke and no power

Need to recheck the injectors, 0263 is an injector imbalance for cylinder 3. Carefully check the electrical connections. Check al injectors are the same pn. You could also change the injector from cyl 3 to another cyl and see if you lose the 0263 but get a different code for the cylinder you moved the injector to.
 
thanks for your advice to check the connectors. i noticed that when i held the connetor on the injector 4 the car was running smoother. i took out the wires and plugs and reconnected everything. that problem was solved, no more trouble codes and the car was running much better. i also cleaned the EGR valve, once again checked the tubes (from intercooler to connection with air sensor- from connector to housing. and from housing to EGR) No leaks. Also gave the EGR a good clean and checked if it works good. Still a lot of black smoke. What i notices when i was cleaning the EGR is that there is some motor oil mainly in the housing pipe between the EGR and intake. I'm thinking that it might be the turbo going bad but the thing is that the tubes to and from the intercooler where sweaty not wet. i hope someone can advice me from this point on
 
OK the black smoke is an indication of excess fuel/insufficient air.

You seem to know the most common cause is an air/boost leak from the induction hoses somewhere, either at a joint or due to rubbing or a split. You may need to remove each hose for careful examination. Oil in the induction system is normal and tends to soften the hoses.
Long hose across the front of engine rubs through on screw head underneath. The 90deg elbow onto EGR valve splits, usually underneath but I guess you would of noticed that if you have removed it completely to do EGR clean.

Other possible causes are over-fuelling MAF sensor or dirty/restricted air filter

drove the car around this morning and it seemed to drive fine except for the black smoke. when i returned i felt some rough engine running. when i started the car later i got code p0263 and p1190 with rough engine running. tomorrow i will change the fuel preessure sensor wires.
 
i removed all the connector and pushed a bended paperclip into the 2 holes on the connectors. this made the pins inside the connector tighter. next i removed the wires from the connector going to the fuel pressure sensor and soldered them on to the sensor. since then the car drives fine except from some black smoke. I assume the car might be chiptuned and because of that it gets a bit more diesel than normal. Is there a way to adjust the fuel pump delivery?

If its been chipped then you will be unable to alter the fuelling, that's where the Synergy is probably the better alternative as you have many different fuelling and mapping settings and if you don't like any of them you can always take it off. If its been chipped then you will have to take it back to have this either remapped or reset to the original ECU settings (if the black smoke is down to the chipping).
