Just bought interesting freelander, first registration in 2006.01, pre- facelift, soft top. Car covered 88.000km (55.000mls). Engine untouched, belts still original. I bought this car as defective, but THIS fail is new for me, never seen before. Tomorrow i will start to disassemble it, i think engine replacement will be required.

Looks like the can pulley has either come loose, or the cam has snapped or seized or possibly the belt has failed. It should have been changed 6 years ago. It unusual for the KV6 to suffer series mechanical failure to be honest.

It would be better to find a working replacement engine. The Rover 75 2.5 Ltr is a good source of a replacement engine. They are seldom thrashed and 75s are now cheap as chips, well they are here in the UK anyway.

I think engine will be totally destroyed inside. If not- i will replace pistons, valves, guides, liners, etc. Btw i tried to search for kv6 engine with low mileage at rover club, but without success.

It depends on how much you want to rebuild the engine.
I have plenty of low mileage parts here, including pistons and liners, cams, pulleys, cranks and other bits, although I'd need to check the condition of them. The head could be salvageable, but you'll need to get it off to check.

Finding a low miles engine 10 years after production stopped is going to be a challenge.

Anybody knows how looks stock radio for this car? I bought with new Pioneer fitted, but now controls from steering wheel of course not working. Harman kordon with cd changer under seat originally fitted.

Hello guys one more time. maybe someone have old caralogues: i have 2.5 rover kv6 engine with broken inlet camshaft lgc000140. I cannot found new one, but i have couple of used 2.5 engines. But both have lgc107730 inlet camshafts! So maybe someone can confirm that lgc000140 it's same as lgc107730, but only with changed code?
Thanks.

Freelander fixed. Engine and exhaust (i used toyota rear stainless silencer, smaller, without increasing of exhaust noise). Car have 89.000 km on the clock, first registration 2006 year.
Now question: one guy offered to me 2011 freelander2 2.2 150hp diesel for this car. But with 270.000 km mileage. Engine needs repair as well. It is worth?
My wife testing freelander :

Glad the V6 is working again.
The FL2 is probably worth a punt, if the price is right.
Do you know what is wrong with the engine?

The FL1 is a much simpler machine to repair and maintain. The FL2 has some transmission and engine issues that are very costly to repair.
Me. I'd keep the FL1 for cheaper motoring.
The FL2 is a much more advanced vehicle however, @270K Km is going to have some distance related issues.
