Hi, im looking to get some new tryes for my freelander 1. Does anyone recommend any? I have pirelli scorpions on at the moment, but to be honest not been very impressed with them. I have standard 17in alloys 225/55/17. Would like some that have good tread pattern and lots of grip as i do a bit of off road shooting.

I have these on mine and they have been really good so far, 215/65/16 though
Good grip in the Dry, and the wet, and a little light mud and grass has been no problem,
Black Circle supply and fit near you at a reasonable price, but best to search around for the very best prices..

If you're looking for a AT tyre you may want look at getting a set of 16" wheels. You'll have a lot more choice.

True, and they are cheaper, possibly up to £50 a corner.

But,

There are still quite a few 17" AT tyres out there.

I'm tempted by the Michelin Latitude Tour HP to replace my General Grabber UHP which are discontinued, in 225/70R17, or even 235/65R17.

I want a quiet tyre, with good wet performance and fairly economical, but with some off road ability.

You're fitting spacers though. For the standard 17" there's very little choice.
 
I have Scorpions on mine. Looking at the Yoko's there dont seem to be any SIPS which are the thin cuts that allow for good hold in snow. Are they winter rated with the required snowflake stamp on the side wall?

The Latitude Tour? No. They're an M+S all season.

I'm using these Star Performer SPTS AS 225/55 R17 101H XL - mytyres.co.uk as my winter tyre. This is their second season. I had no problems at all last year.

They can either have that symbol or the M&S lettering, means the same thing, they should all be competent to run in those conditions.

Pure winter tyres are a different ball game all together
 
Depends on your use. I'm predominantly on road so I'm using Nankang SP5, snowflake marked. Good grip up to worn out, not noisy, a decent tyre. £82 a corner at local independent. Great on muddy field, wet grass, gentle lanes-I haven't pushed the point. God knows if you're going proper off-road, there's not a lot of choice
 
Having 'searched' the threads I still can't come up with a clear decision on some new tyres.

I currently have Michelin 225 55 17

I need good fuel consumption, good wet grip, low noise and a decent ability in field entrances, grass and snow. I don't green lane.

There seems to be a massive price difference. £65 for some West Lake up to £200 ish.

My lowest tread is about 3mm and highest 5mm so getting to change time.

What are you guys fitting now?

If you're primarily on roads, you want a road biased tyre...

A lot of the price difference is in getting what you pay for, £65 for a 225/55/17 called a "west lake" (Read: Chinese ****e) isn't going to be particularly good. Getting a set of decent good quality tyres will not only be better quality, but will have better grip levels, better wear characteristics and be inherently safer to use. Something like a Scorpion STR, Wrangler HP or Michelin Latitude will be what I'd go for, and have ran all 3 different tyres at one stage or another with the STR's being ran for longest (my dad swears by his Wranglers on his FL2). You want M&S rated tyres for all year round usage.

Way I see it, the tyres are the only thing really keeping you from having a massive accident, so I always get the best tyres I can get (not always are the most expensive the best)
