My 134000 mile TD4 starts well, runs well, acceleratres well, until I am over 2000 revs for more than a few minutes, once I do this the power drops off and the throttle is of very little use.
Have done all the Intercooler pipes, turbo pipes, ERV functions perfectly, (now), replaced three knackered vacumn pipes, there are no recorded faults and no warning lights come on.

All I have to do is turn the ignition key off and on, then all is restored, until I go over 2000 revs again.

Great for fuel consumption, 40+/gal, crap for anything else.

Please help, currently going mad.

Thanks

Graham

Thanks for the reply, I am quite a new LR owner, could you please tell me what a MAP sensor is/does.

Have also been told to check the turbo actuator is functioning. Something to do with the waste gate and filter.

Will try both and let you know the outcome.
Thanks once again for your time.

Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor. Sends a message to the ECU about pressure levels for the turbo etc.
Usually when a loss of power at higher speeds is experienced, its the MAP sensor. But the other advice is relevant, and worth looking at. If you wondered, the turbo filter is hanging down the back of the engine(behind the air filter box). About £5 and worth doing anyway.

Hi, back again at last. Replaced MAP, no change. Bit bullet, put in garages hands, they replaced the MAF, still no change, new very nice man assured me it was a blocked fuel filter, replaced, eventually, no change, he then said the pump must be goosed, fitted new one, still no change. Got it booked into a landy/jag specialist next week, who promises me the fix. I will let you lnowLets hope so, if this helps others not to have to experience my problems then all is not lost.

Unfortunately, yes i had to as the garage would not say for sure it would fix the problem, but it has in the past, so i said, ok replace it, therefore it became my request. Filter really did need doing, fuel that came out when it was removed was almost black, and a load of sludge fell out as well.
Anyway, all sorted now, ended up being the turbo actuator sensor stuck fully open, hence constant max boost, so engine restricted fuel flow to protect itself, wiring also corroded, sensor and connector replaced, and all is well.
Only took an hour to diagnose and fix.
Specialist was S&C Motors in Netley, Southampton, great service and very approachable people.
Thanks to Skinny Mike for your help.

I'm so pleased I've found this. My Freelander TD4 has just started to have the power drop off just as I accelerate through 2000rpm. Most noticeable in 4th and 5th gear. Have also noticed what sounds like lots of air being sucked in which I assume is the turbo. This new sound and power loss could be just what you had. Guess I will start looking for the turbo actuator sensor :) Thanks for your post

Turned out that mine was just a split in the intercooler hose. The one on the left of the engine as you look at it from the front. That one that rubs on the corner so will soon wear another hole in itself. Looks like a big P-clip should have been fitted to keep the pipe away from the engine.

I've got a similar problem with my td4 I was driving down the motorway last night when I started to loose power then we heard a load hiss come from the engine then a cloud of crap came out the back I managed to nurse it the couple of miles I had to get home and spoke to a friend who's a mechanic and also a bloke from a landrover specialist and they both said boost hoses so I've changed all 3 and I still have no power and it even cuts out any ideas would be great as I'm new to the landy scene too thanks in advance

I was told you could blow a load of smoke into one of the intercooler pipes and then look to see where it leaks out. I was lucky with just a split pipe so had the easy fix. When you do find the cause of your problem do let us know as I'm sure one of us will get the same sooner or later.

Well after speaking to a few people today I'm gonna clean my egr valve to see if that works if not then it looks like it's my turbo that's blown but hopefully it's just the egr cos quite a few people have said that is a common problem with freelander td4's so I'm gonna take it off and give it a good clean and fingers crossed it will work

After have a diagnostic test done it shows that the boost solinoid has packed up so after removing the old 1 and spending £66 on a brand new 1 and fitting it with the help of a fitting diagram then having to pay again for the codes to be wiped there's still no change the only code that is left is P1110 which I've been told in the air intake temperature sensor the car still not running properly but someone has disconnected the sensor and I can't find the cable anywhere can anyone help cos I'm running out of ideas

the temp sensor wire comes up from below the intake pipe, may have been ticked away underneath the cowling
also possible sensor blocked, hence beeing disconected

Hi all,
I am new to owning a Land Rover and also to trying to work on my own car. I have found this site really useful for suggestions and locating parts on the car. My problem is that the car seems to run fine until I get to about 80mph then the power goes, the revs drop down along with the speed. It also does this going up hills at speed. I bought the car to tow a caravan so, i’m Concerned that the engine doesn’t perform under pressure. I have already followed some advice from this forum, carried out general service with pack (although I got the wrong fuel filter because mine is the one in engine bay, not in rear wheel arch), replaced boost solenoid valve, done egr blank, replaced crank case breather filter with bmw mod. Still not solved the problem. I have been looking at lots of posts on here and lots of people suggest different sensors. Can anyone tell me where to locate these sensors on the engine, so I can have a look. I have been googling, as I didn’t want to ask a silly question but i’m desperate! I’m totally new to all this but i’m fed up of paying mechanics £50 per hour. Can anyone please help. Thanks in advance and for all the help i’ve already got from other threads
