Key not turning is one of two things usually. The easy one is to rock the steering wheel as you turn the key as the steering lock can stick and stop the key from turning. The other, harder one, is due to wear in the key barrel which you may overcome by using a spare key, turning key over, pulling key out a fraction whilst turning and jiggling it gently until it turns. If this is the problem new steering lock and barrel is needed with new key. Chip will need swapping from key and both keys kept for doors and fuel cap.

thank you hoping for no 1 problem, we only got it on the 28th feb

I had this same issue a few weeks ago. I ended up pretty much gutting all the locking plates from the lock, except for 1/2 a dozen or so.
This drastic action isn't an easy DIY job however.

Check the easy stuff - like the small wire to the solenoid - mine had a corroded connector at the starter - found it by accident by jiggling it while my wife was turning the key

Also check the battery cables one might have dislodged, this happened to me the other week. Went shopping and returned to the car only to find nothing happening when turned key, I knew it was not steering lock issue as I could turn the wheel, poped the bonnet and negative cable had come off

While helpful in many cases.
Non of this will help this time as the OP said the key won't turn, so the lock is fubar. ;)

this happened to my parents freelander, did the usual thinking it was the steering lock,in the end they called out the AA,they sprayed wd40 into the key hole and it worked, said the barrel had seized slightly due to dampness and it worked a treat
