Freelander t4 auto transmission cooler

Hi, I'm a bit new with things here and have just brought a freelander but on giving it a "service / over-all" feeling abit of a fool. :doh:
I have found the transmission cooler is not connected to the auto gear-box but there is a 6" long pipe which is in acting as a bypass so I need to give the auto cooler a flush and get some new pipes but was wanting to know if using and running the freelander in general use will do any harm.

Please any help would be appreciated regards Dave.

Wonder why it's been bypassed?? It could be leaking or if your lucky it's just because a coolant hose split and someone couldn't be bothered to fix it properly.

As for using it without, it's there for a reason so i'd guess that using it without in hot weather or towing would be the greatest risk. I don't know if it'll cause damage or just alter the shifting if it operates outside it's temperature range. Not worth the risk in my opinion, auto boxes are expensive. Hopefully it's an easy fix.

Hi, thanks for your post but also looking further into things the inter-cooler is blocked so I'm looking for a new one and of course pipes. Anyone got one or knows where's best to get one and best price , regards Dave.

I'm curious. If its just cooling autobox transmission fluid, which isnt the thickest of oils, what the hell blocked it up???

Just wondering if there is something else I need to be aware of with mine....

could it be that the cooler was leaking so has been deliberately blocked to prevent the loss of auto fliud........

not as tired now and had another go at my problem, still fed up though,
the intercooler is not blocked as I have had air-line on it and its blown oil out so it looks like it was poss just a pipe split and done the by pass to get going again but then not dealt with it after,
still going to get new cooler and pipes but having problems finding parts and part numbers, any help...... regards Dave.

Well that's why it was bypassed, if there is oil coming from where the coolant hoses fit then it has a leak that would pass coolant into the box when the cooling system is up to pressure.

For a replacement there are usually a few freelanders being broken up and sold through ebay or else check you local breakers.
