Nope, I've just got the standard Td4 auto so I've got exactly the same performance as yours. You've got stiffer, slightly lower suspension & it should be reasonably specced but there's not much else in it apart from the price.

It's the 06 & 56 Td4 auto that has the £400+ road tax costs.

Your car will have been remapped by a third party tuner as the factory Sport was exactly the same power/torque as every other Td4.

I've got one!!!

Easy to live with, mpg about 27 round town, auto box is nice once warm, can stay in gear a bit too long for my liking when cold so i use mine in manual mode til its warmed up a bit. tax is 260 per year :( as you will have read on here get the crankcase filter changed for the bmw one, clamp the egr vac pipe and change the intercooler hoses before one splits on you and all will be fine buddy :)

Handling/looks wise the 'Sport' is good, although the fancy big wheels might atract the wrong type of attention if you park it on the street at night.

Some argue the 'Sport' defeats the object of owning a Freelander/4X4 as you get less ground clearance and can barely go off road.

I imagine Defender ('real' Landrover) boys have a good chuckle when driving by a Freelander Sport.
Having said that the interior and sound deadening in a Defender is like a tractor.

I guess you pay your money and take your choice at the end of the day.
I'd rather have an HSE than a Sport as then I'd feel it was more of a genuine off road vehicle.

For me, the 'fail' of the Sport is to have a standard low powered diesel engine. It needs more 'oomph'.

I will openly admit I don't want hardcore off roading but the looks are so appealing for us and we absolutely love ours, I will get a defender one day just for green laning....one day!!! We have a nasty hill by us when it's icy so ours fits the bill perfectly plus I have been a LR fan since I was 10

Why would you want a Freelander sport? That is the most retarded concept for a car ever. The idea of a sport 4x4 is like having a Massey Ferguson MF 8600 Sport Edition. Do they make sport edition tractors? No. Why? Because stupid people don't buy tractors. If they did, I'm sure they would make one...

Kinda proves that the Freelander sport was just designed for stupid people. I had a normal Freelander TD4 ES and ground clearance was so bad that I managed to rip off my entire exhaust while driving along a normal/unchallenging green lane. Why anyone would want a Freelander with even LESS ground clearance is totally beyond me.

Sorry but that is just one thing that I really can't get my ahead around. It makes absolutely no sense.

Also, the bit about getting attention at night is BS. My TD4 was unfortunate to have the "fancy" 17" alloy wheels and believe me, it didn't get much attention and if it did, they were just laughs...

Well Massey Ferguson does offer several options for each tractor model:D
How much difference in ground clearence is there?

Can't find stats other than articles/reviews stating that it's hindered by the lower ground clearance.

If you look at my old TD4 in the pic above, you can see just how close the backbox was to the ground. It also gets worse than that, the TD4 also has a u-bend that connects directly to the backbox and this is even lower to the ground! If you damage this, you will have to replace the whole middle section including the cat.
