Hi,got a 98 Freelander, yesterday the back door decided not to open:( ,glass doesnt drop the inch or so and can only get access to boot through back seats!Attempted to open rear glass from the dash switch, nothing happens (but can hear a 'click' from the rear of the car somewhere on depressing this button.)
have checked relevant dash mounted fuses all were ok.
can anyone please help?

cheers:)

Hi paple un welcome. . .yer dont say whot model, but if its detachable roof jobby, there is a switch int roof , if this roof has bin orft fer summer fun, then its a common problem, that roof has not been put back quiet right, worth a check, failing that you could have the door solenoid kaput again common fault go to search lot bin written on this try ,,,tail gate wiper/window problem floppy hat man did a reet good write up on this very subject. . .and best oh luck. . .:)

my next question is how do I get the rear door open (without bustin the glass) to check out possible faulty etc (broken wiring etc).

the rear door handle is not enableing me to even get the door slightly ajar.

or should I just get me hammer out?

hi papple - Can yu lock and unlock the car?
if so - try pressing and holding down the unlock button on the key fob. If yu hold it down for (at least) 15 secs then it shd lower the rear window, if it can be lowered that is.
continuing to look

chers for the help folks!!
the other half out in it at the mo,will try when she returns.

If it does come down, do I assume (as far as I can assume anything with a Freelander) that it will go back up too when depressing the lock part of the fob for at least 15 seconds? or best to do it during the day just in case so as not to leave temptation for local scum bags overnight?

you need to press the key fob to lower the window,

to put the window up

you need to put the key in the lock below the window and turn it clockwise.

Fingers crossed it should go up, alternatively use the button inside the car to put the window up

the key fob long press is one of those Hippoo "design features". I found out the hard way by sittin in my lounge with the keys in my pocket. went out in morning to find all doors unlocked and window down - back of car full of rainwater - took 2 weeks to identify i was crushing the fob in my pocket and car outside was responding accordingly :(

no joy so far, going to try in increments of 5 seconds upto 1 minute next, had to come inside to get some warmth back into me.!

this mite help - or not ;) it shows the complicated electronic system for opening the rear window - from what yu describe, the rear solenoid is operating - but not the motor. If the motor is nacked then yu aint got many options, coz i think the door needs to open to get to the interior panel and then the motor.

Its a terrible design problem on the hard top,if ya window motor or wiring to it is kaput and window up ya stuffed. . .however if yer very clever look in the rave wiring code find the cable for down dab a 1.5mm cable on yer + ont battery fit a 10a in line fuse in line [in case there is a dead short on motor] dissconect the wire from relay [so no back feeds to other circuits] and flash the cable till window is below the top lip. . .bobs ya bluncle , then open door and find the fault[cables cut inside is a common one, however if your window drive motor is shagged , after testing fuses relay and the drive it down trick. . .jist rip the phuckin plastic rear bit orft and find the fault.or jist drive it in a puddle [the door jist normally fall orft] snigger snort . .and best oh luck. . . .

hey Minge - i think the wiring colours woz in my previous post. How yu supposed to "dissconect the wire from relay " if he cant get into the back door?

cos the relay is in the front. . .:D

its a window regulator fault, if the window wont drop, the ccu wont pop the latch

its possible to power probe the door open by sending an earth to the door latch via one of the plugs behind the drivers side pannel in the boot, its a bit tricky to get the panel off with the door closed but once you pop the door, you can very carefully open it by bending(!!!) the window and pulling the door.

ah! - fort yu mite say summat like that :D
but he said ..... "can hear a 'click' from the rear of the car somewhere" - so that not the relay then - any ideas wot it is?
