Hi

I eventually went for the 1.8 freelander !(Aug 03 1.8 Kalahari SE) and now I want to change the radio.

I went to our local auto parts dealer and I asked him about changing the radio.

We have steering controls and a CD Changer under the drivers seat (Alpine from what I can see) the radio is the C24.

I told him we have steering controls and a CD changer and he said if we change the radio the CD changer will not work ??

He had one that should work with the steering controls but not the CD changer.

Is this correct ?? Is there a radio out there that will be compatible with the CD Changer and steering controls ? Also would this need a wiring adapter? If so where can you get these from ??

Any advice would be appreciated as the radio is doing my head in !

Jersey,
I'm a bit behind on up-to date head units, but if I remember right you'll easily get a sony head unit with steering control, but it won't go with the alpine cd changer: Don't think alpine do units with remote controls...I think that your head unit may be a phillips one, and Christ alone knows what they do...Silly question, why do you want to change the head unit anyway?

We want to change it because the radio on it is rubbish. Where we live in Jersey the radio keeps breaking up whilst driving around and I have to admit that this is the only radio I have that does that and it's real pain in the ar@!".

If it's an Alpine CD Changer how come it won't work with an other head unit ? I would have thought it would just be a standard changer wouldn't it ? I know it is going to need a wiring adapter so it should work right ?

Jersey,
Sorry for late reply, bin upto me ears in it...Yep, the Alpine may work with other head units with an adaptor,You'll need to check that with either Alpine(v.Helpful people) or a car audio specialist with a bit more upto date knowhow than I've now got.I just remember having problems with Alpines and other make compatability before. the prob is the steering controls, I can only think of Phillips(which you have) or Sony head units that have steering controls. Head above the parapet ready to be shot at for being wrong.....
