Just a thought. The LR PCD blah blah blah is the same on FTO wheels. They come in a 6.5" width, are 16s and have the exact same design as the LR wheels. Two advantages are they are as cheap as chips and have a little less backspace, just a few mm (ET is 38 compared to the LR 40) but it positions them just right under the arch on the hub. You will probably need some spigots.....a fiver for 4............and you will need flat lugnuts (Ie. with washers) you can get a 225 on them and 70s will clear well so a 225 75 could be a goer.
I'm planning to call around a few scrappies to see what they have so knowing what other cars have the same PCD is great thanks. So long as I can get the correct spigots for them then I'm sorted. :)

5 stud Honda vehicles (CRV) have the same PCD and spigot size in most cases;)

I think I have just got my head around offset. In my simple brain I have to use simple terms so if the standard Freelander offset is 35 to 45 and I want to fit bigger wheels than standard then if I can I would be better to go for wheels with a smaller offset of say 25 to 30.
Is that right?
I can deal with the wheel arch diameter being too small (a big hammer) or the tyre hitting the inside of the wheel arch (an even bigger hammer) but the tyre hitting the strut requires the wheel moving out i.e. spacers and I don't fancy having to use them or paying for them.

As long as the centre bore is not smaller then if you know the bores you can get spigots off ebay or such. This helps with your size

As far as compatible PCDS and ETs (backspace/offset) etc. are concerned this is a useful tool.

I checked the FTOs and the wheel lines up with the edge of the arch (and there is a load of clearance) but as long as tread is covered you could go wider subject to clearances. This is the beauty of the FTOs that they are a replica of the 15s on FL but in 16" My Pajero has 15s but there are 16s for the Pajero and could easily do the trick and you can get 7" wide or more.

Take a peek; taken while I was checking for clearances.

Very nice mate, and I see what you mean about them being nearly identical to Freelander wheels. Having said that I can probably get 16" Freelander wheels easily enough too as there are plenty of dead K series in the scrappies.
Are the FTO wheels set further out then the Freelander ones. If so than I guess that is what I'm looking for.

Yes, although a complicated way of doing business the ET system tends to work but I prefer backspace guidance but generally that info is only really in use in the US. Don't forget the offset depends on wheel width - 6.5s I think are 40 ET on the Fl's 15" alloys so on a 6.5 wide a 38 (as per the FTO) will give that bit extra but if the wheel is wider you need to calculate the right ET to give you the backspace clearance and keep the wheels tread covered.
This might help.

I was amazed at how much strut clearance I found. In fact the spring saddle or seat is well away from anything.:D

For me arch clearance is something I would not want to mess with - hammer or no - as I went down that route on my SJ and Jimny and removing enough arch became a real devil. I had a Ford Anglia Van once and I pulled the arch returns out to allow room for wide wheels, it's a game but hey, you could fit Landrover arches of some kind. ;) At least when dealing with strut clearance you can possibly use spacers but offset is best - as I said I expect you won't need to on the FL unless going super wide/tall without a lift; the clearances on the FL shocked me as I had a Rav 4 a few years back and bugger all cleared plus the wheels were narrow pram like things - nothing fitted.

Yes
I am using them cos I had them already as "extras". You might find a better alternative. Just need to do the math.;) Paj will fit too I am certain but will be 7" ( I don't recall a 6.5" in them) so you'd be looking at ¼ " more in and out.

My 17" HSE rims are 7" wide but I can't remember the offset. They sit wider than the 16 Freelander wheel though.

The modulars I was looking at are 7" but unsure of the offset so If I get them I risk needing spacers. I'm not even sure if they have the correct hub size so I might be better going for something from a scrappy, then I can make them work for me and they should be cheaper.

I like the smaller rims because I like more tyre. 15" with a 31 10.5 on it is heaven. Many go big rim (height) and low aspect tyre which is fine but just isn't me. A larger rim means a smaller aspect tyre if the speedo is to remain something like accurate and not illegal. On a 225 17 it would need a 60 aspect but you could get away with a 225 70 on a 16 and get an extra inch of sidewall.

I like the 16" FTO in this case as 16" seems to give me more tyre selection plus of course I already had them and they have less backspace. Otherwise I might have gone for an 8x15 with a 245 70 but who knows??:D

Sweet! Only two problems, postage to Northern Ireland is £50 and only 4 of them. I want a spare the same size as the rest to show off on the boot. :p
Oh and to save the 4WD if it is ever needed.

A couple of nights ago I spent some time cleaning out my spare inlet manifold and left it soaking in paraffin and yesterday I power hosed it and left it to dry. All so that I would have a nice clean manifold ready to fit after taking off the manifold which was bound to be filthy, caked in soot and probably 3/4 blocked.
You can imagine how pleased I was to find it and the EGR is actually fine. Not blocked up at all and only a little oily. o_O
Not sure what is going on there but I'm just going to clean up the original and throw it back on with my patented home brew never to be repeated EGR bypass.

Never to be repeated because it was a faff to do and they are only twenty quid on ebay so not worth the effort and time.
While in there I changed the air filter and crankcase breather filter for a new type cyclone one and as the hoses were in a horrible state I ordered these.

Why green you ask? Why not I say. I also say they were from a UK seller so will come quick, but most of all because they were around half the price of other kits for the pre face lift Freelander and once I close the bonnet I won't care what colour they are. :p

I found a black set for about the same amount. I did have to trim the EGR elbow pipe for a perfect fit however.

I had to do that for my last set too. It looks like yours is a face lifted car as it has the sensor for the short hose. My cars are pre facelift and last time I used the same kit as yours but had to find a suitable bit of pipe to bodge the connection or the hose would have been too short.
I'm hoping this one will be the right length.
The face lift kits seem to be cheaper, I looked else where for the same kit I just bought and the cheapest price was £90 plus delivery.

I fitted the FTOs today.
