Only driven it a few times since replacing it and so far so good.I find that cheap CVs can cause vibration. So keep an eye out for that and let us know your thoughts
Sadly it is going on Gumtree tonight as SWMBO is happy to drive Bertie so there is no point in having two Freelanders when I have a company car.

Ooops! I was listing the car in gumtree last night and couldn't find the MOT certificate so tapped the details into the Gov website and got a nasty surprise.
It expired in October!
Not sure how we didn't get a reminder but looks like we got away with it, no nast letters in the post. MOT booked for next Sat so at least I'll be selling with full MOT.

Hi Ali,I spent a few hours on Saturday tinkering with various bits to try and get Audrey ready for an off road event today in Mageramorne quarry. It is an disused quarry where some of the outdoor scenes for Game of Thrones are shot, but is also used for off roading.
The ally I used is pretty lightweight so I found an old deckchair and cut a chunk leg out of it, a bit of thumping and squishing in the vice and it now strengthens the leading edge of the sump guard.
I then found some 5mm ally plate I rescued from a tip and bashed it until it had a nice hump in the middle. Then I fixed it to the sump guard and using a mixture of rivets, small bolts and brute force and ignorance I made the thinner ally follow the contours of the 5mm plate.
Bolts temporarily fitted to pull the ally into shape around the bulge in the 5mm plate.
Then bolted it in place
I have to admit with the low ground clearance there was a lot of scraping and crashing over some of the more rutted routes but happily no damage to report so the sump guard earned it's keep.
Having ripped off the plastic under tray from my Hippo yesterday, I am going to be replacing it with something. How is your sump guard doing, and what thickness material do you think would be most appropriate to make it from?

Unless your intending to do serious off roading the sump guard doesn't need to be all that strong. I used thin alloy reinforced with 6mm stuff. At one stage the front of car was sitting on a boulder (standard tyres and no lift kit) so I had to reverse off it but no harm done so it was strong enough. I'll probably strengthen it more some time but for now it is fine.
This sump guard is now on Bertie and last time I was out I didn't scrap the bottom of the car on anything which I was a bit surprised but very pleased about. I suspect a Disco or Trattor would need very big wheels to keep the diffs higher than Berties are because of the independent suspension so most of the tracks were no problem for me even the deepest ruts.
If I were buying Alloy for it I'd go for 5 or 6mm.

I did mine the way I did so it would be easier to remove the guard for servicing. Four bolts and it's off.

I took the car out for a spin after replacing the CV joint and noticed a rattle coming from the front.I find that cheap CVs can cause vibration. So keep an eye out for that and let us know your thoughts
Thought it must be the CV joint again or maybe even the other end of the drive shaft and had Dodge's words in mind the whole time, but everything seemed fine. Messed about trying to find the issue for a couple of days, even slapped a load of silicon around the lower tie bar bush in case it was the cause but no joy.
Then last night I decided to poke around with the car on it's wheels instead of jacked up like I had been doing.
Doh!!!
It was the drop link. I couldn't feel it sloppy while jacked up because of the pressure on it, thankfully I had a spare lying around so bolted it in and jobs a good un.
The morel of the story is check your drop links with the car on it's wheels.

Nah, Audrey was SWMBO's motor, Bertie is my plaything. She'll be driving Bertie as her daily cause it didn't make sense taxing and insuring both cars when one is in the garage 95% of the time.
Mmmm, 'fraid Jeep was included in the description.
Like it or not most people here call them Jeeps in the same way they talk about Hoovers.

Audrey is gone.
Mot'd yesterday 12:30pm, listed on Gumtree 1:30pm and sold today. I didn't expect it to happen that quick but I guess 12 months MOT was the clincher. The guy has no interest in working on cars so figured a fully sorted car with full MOT would save him any trouble.
Didn't like to point out he was buying a Landy.
