Hi everyone I am new to this site so bare with me. I have a couple of questions about my Freelander. It is a 03 TD4 Serengeti with only 70000 on the clock.

1. When I turn the ignition on the fuel pump runs and runs and does not switch off, is this an indication of a faulty high pressure fuel switch.

2. My clutch pedal seems to travel almost to the floor before it disengages the gear box. First thing in the morning it is difficult to engage first gear. Is this an indication of a worn clutch, slave cylinder, or master cylinder. I look forward to any suggestions.

This is my first Freelander and so far I am very pleased with it.

1. This is perfectly normal & it's only the low pressure supply pump running which is also self priming. The high pressure pump is driven mechanically by the engine I believe.

2. Try bleeding the clutch first & make sure the pedal & all mounting brackets etc. are solid as they have been known to fail. If all checks out, look for any leaks from both master & slave cylinders, if it was me I would look at them before committing to a new clutch. After that your into clutch & possibly even dual mass flywheel territory though I think the latter is less likely. Still, you'd have to weigh up the pros/cons of replacing this as well if you had to put in a new clutch. I think a bleed of the system will help a lot though.

Thanks very much for your quick reply. So the low pressure supply pump will constantly run even if the engine is not started all the time the ignition is left on?
I will check the clutch pedal mountings and then set about bleeding the system.

thanks again.
