I refer you to reply 5 sir.

Im afraid the doors will indeed fall off if you even submerge the slightest bit of a gaylander in water. Get the disco, the doors will stay on but the boot floor might not stay in!

That said if your a hairdresser and a dedicated follower of fashion get the freelander anyway, it will compliment your dress and make your back side look petit! :D

i have a Discovery II which is used to pull a Bayliner from the Glasgow area to Argyll twice a year.

Having said that we used to use the Bayliner on Loch Lomond most weekends until the Manky Mob decided to ruin the loch for most law abiding citizens.

The wife also had a TD4 Freelander and when the Discovery was not available we used it to pull the boat with little trouble, that said -

If you intend to launch the boat at the Duncan Mills slip at Balloch on a regular basis I would recommend the Discovery, due to the steepness of the slip, dont think a Freelander clutch would last long if you have a heavy boat. Also for the fact that you can also get more gear and people in the Disco.

However we had the Freelander for 5 years and never experienced and problems.

MPG is not a factor for me so cant help you out there.

Many thanks for the info! Appreciated.

MPG & other costs is the stumbling block for us. Whatever we get will replace a very economical & cheap to run little car and will be used mostly for the short school / shopping / work trips etc. so while I want the Disco the Freelander actually is the more sensible option.

(But I's don't does sensible if I's can gets away wiv it)

is a diesel gaylander actually any more economical than a disco?
im getting about 32 from a 200tdi disco, pottering about with a bit of light towing now and then.

If you're looking at towing I would say go for a disco. Although a freelander can easily tow a small caravan you may find that being able to pull away in low range on the odd occasion or using it to manouvere at a more controlable speed an advantage.
