Hi All
Im new here, just brought a "V" 2000 Freelander Xi 1.8 Petrol. Never had a 4x4 before, just brought as the wife needs it to get in and out of the field where she keeps a horse.
Im a proper pertol head, and am well versed in pretty much everthing petrol both cars and bikes, however when it comes to 4x4 and diesel im struggling a bit.
Now i know about the freelander woes, etc etc and i brought one with FSH and the Head Gasket done 10k ago, so im hoping it isnt gonna be to bad. BUT.
Heres a few questions that id like to get to the bottom of.
1. When using 1st and Reverse, (obviously at slow speed) when coming off the power the car seems to stop very quickly and doesnt seem to roll very freely. I sought the advise of my father-in-law whos had a lot of Discovery experience, and he said it could be a sign of a knackered transfer box, but after pushing the car back and forth out of gear, he didnt seem to think it would be that? It almost feels like the brakes are binding or something.
2. Fuel economy from a 1.8 Petrol. we put £50 in it and it looks like it osnt gonna do much more than 230/250 miles? Is this normal. The engine sounds and seems to run very sweet, but after my question above i wonder if this is having an effect on economy.
3. No reverse Lights. Bulbs ok, are the switches prone to going wrong?
4. Strange noise sometimes, i think when braking, it sounds like an old spring going twang, a bit like the noise i get when i tried the hill descent gear. Again is this all normal. I assume its using the ABS and wonder if this all points to something wrong with the ABS. I know the front discs and pads are worn and am about to replace them. Dont know if this has anything to do with it.
5. Sunroof switch for elecy roof has been removed, so im guessing it doesnt work anymore. Are these prone to going wrong?
6. Radio not plugged in and not working, havent got a chance to try another, but wondered if its got anything to do with anything else elecy not working like the roof?
All in all im pretty pleased with the car for what i paid for it, so i accept there may be things to fix, but could certainly do with some advice on all of the above.
Many Thanks in advance.
Chris.
