Do any MK1 hippo owners have a heated front windscreen installed?

Do they make a heated front windscreen for the MK1

Might be a nice DIY job if you can get hold of the glass?

Any update on this?...I like the sound of this modification, especially as I may have to have a new screen fitted soon .....

Is the wiring already there, if not, is it difficult to install? Where does the switch go?

Cheers in anticipation.

I would think the wiring side of things should be quite simple, if need be a separate fused power feed taken from the battery to the screen itself (I think the connections are accessed from under the scuttle panel) and the power controlled by a relay and suitable switch on the dash.

I wonder what the cost of the heated screen is?

I think the circuit is just a on/off switch with an inbuilt timmer, so it switches off after 5 mins or so.

The heated screen could be supplied via the insurance company:eek: just say its a heated one??? Pay ya excess and of you go???

Heated windscreens usually suck a fair bit of power and are often split into two so that each side is supplied through a separate relay, then back to the switch.
The connections are often, but not always, on the bottom centre (I've known a car with them in the corners) but wherever they are there's never much space to fiddle about connecting them. You'd be well advised to talk to a windscreen fitting company and even try and view a heated screen so that you can get the wiring and connectors sorted before you plan to have one fitted.
Heated screens are notoriously fragile whilst out of the car so, once you're having it fitted, you'd do well to test the continuity of the elements (or get the windscreen fitter to do it) - before they cut your old one out.

:D

They also come with SE spec ones, the screen runs on a timer and has 2 30amp fuses in the engine bay, one for each side of the screen and another fuse to overlook those 2.

They are in the engine near the battery, mine is great for melting ice and clearing most misting but mine is now 7 1/2 years old and a few of the elements are dud now so that leaves lines that clear slower than the rest.

You should be able to wire it up if your competent. just test it properly when done!

So anyone with a heated screen..........where are the connections? I presume bottom as the is a left and right side acording to AJM.

The cable going to them will be pretty hefty too.

Infact Im going to consult the Rave manual, that should have all the info I need.
