My father had a 55 plate TD4 which hasn't turned a wheel in 6 months, the alarm was set when he last used it. It appears that the battery is now seriously flat, the little red alarm LED does not even flash. The central locking does not work on the fob however I thought that I would be able to get in to via the key on the drivers door. The key turns but there is no movement on the button, does any one have any ideas. Is it possible to open the bonnet from the outside so i can get the battery out to charge? Is there another damage free way in? Any help gratefully recieved.

Yes you can open the bonnet from the outside. It's a pain in the arse but possible. If it was me, I would open the bonnet, tape the bonnet sensor down, then stick a set of jump leads on it.

Remove the undertray and connect a charger to the alternator output connection and an engine earth. Then you should be able to open with the key. You will likely need to recalibrate the rear window and re-synchronise the key fob remotes.

I have finally got the undertray off and managed to connect a charger to get the door locks to work, many thanks. Incidentally how do you open the bonnet from the outside?
