She went bang alright, thought I had hit a deer! Not as bad a job as I thought it would be though, only thing I ****ed was the abs sensor so will be paying someone to do that and supplying the part, you don't even need to take it off stupid Haynes manual.

Just been on bell engineering site and they quote the following

Another cause of IRD failure is due to bad wear in the inner constant velocity joint on the offside drive shaft. This usually results in the outer taper roller bearing (next to the CV joint) collapsing and causing the top gear shaft to break teeth, which in turn usually cracks or smashes the IRD main casing and end casing with subsequent loss of all oil.

Yeah bell engineering sold me and ird and the casing cracked after 200 miles never responded to my letter and 3 months later sent me a letter demanding £150 because i did not return the old unit. Not wanting to get into a slagging match about them but i won't be using there services again, New driveshafts were fitted along with new disc's pads when it went back together.

Did you fit new vcu at the same time?? Did you do all the work yourself???

It was a 2wd IRD so no VCU was needed, the work was done by a garage cost my missis nearly £700 with everything included, then another £300 for a another IRD When that one cocked up, could have bought another freelander for the money we spent.

The IRD in the picture. Is that the one that has only done 200 miles?

Arh right so thats you, you are a thief! You didn't respond or answer your, emails or phone, i called your place of work as thats the only other contact details we had from you, to find you had been sacked!! You cancelled you credit card so the deposit couldn't be paid!! We resorted to letters, and still no response, so now moving to debt collectors to recover our costs.

Regards your so called failure, We never received a letter from you, you never called us so how would we know if you have a problem. The problem shown in this thread can be caused by a few problems, get you facts right before you start throwing slur around like this!

I cant get my breath!!

Doesnt that tell you something, 3 knackered IRD's, doesn't that point to something causing it!!!!

Careful Austen. Your not allowed to accuse people of theft on here. Your thread will get removed or the lunchbox boys will jump on you and defend the thief to the end :D
