Freelander gearbox filler plug stuck

Is there a way to take the gearbox filler plug out when an 8mm allen key spins inside it? The inside of the plug is rounded and I'm having trouble taking it out. Any ideas? Thanks
 
I tend to shock them out by using the hammer and chisel technique. That is less destructive to a tool but does damage the plug. However the plug can more often than not, be refitted the same hammer and chisel technique.
 
You could try getting a male multi spline to tightly fit in a tap it in with a hammer then keep tapping the back of the ratchet while trying to Un do it worked for me in the past
 
I have welded a spanner to them before now obviously some body has used the wrong sized key but take you battery off before you do any welding

It is for the PG1 box. I assumed the OP was talking about the Getreg box fitted to the TD4 Freelander. That uses a hex key to release it.
 
another trick is to get a bigger Allen key and grind the edges of the key down a bit to make a wedge like Allen key then bang it in with a hammer but do not use to much force you could crack the casing and as it goes deeper in it acts like a wedge then add a bit of heat and it should come out I have done this before .

hammer and chissel did the trick on mine. then replace plug and copper washer. replace drain plug id it looks slightly damaged to avoid same happening next time.
