Freelander for wife

Hello all, Hope you can help. Got the wife talked round to getting her a freelander. Can you give me some advice on which type and spec to go for, I know next to nothing about the freelander, I'm a defender and disco user. Just need to know what to avoid and what faults to look for, have about3 to 5k to spend.

A td4 Auto would not go a miss I have one the wife has a 1800 petrol and I know which one I prefer.MINE

My mrs recently talked herself into selling her fiesta and driving my freelander 2, which has meant i'm keeping my fl1, unless i sell it and get something else!!
