Of the more serious names, I liked E-Lander, I'd already been thinking of the vehicle as an E-Lander as fr back as the days when I was coaching you on welding techniques... Since that's a solid mabye I've been brainstorming for another name, came up with "the Li-ioned Rover" as in Lithium Ion batteries? Dont tell me they are Lipos as that just ruins my wordsmanship.

I've been putting off starting the new battery box for a few days because I wasn't sure how to do it.
Do I cut out 5 bits of steel and hot glue them together or do I cut it out as a single sheet and fold the sides up?
Option one means lots of cutting, welding and even more grinding probably resulting in bad warping.
Option two means a lot of effort bending 1.5mm steel sheet.
So I decided to try option two to see how it would go and to give myself a fighting chance I ran the grinder along the bend lines to 1/2mm or so.
This is the result after welding up the corners. :)

Now I have to figure out how to mount the battery modules in the box I've just made. ;)

To be honest I thought it was going to be a mess but cutting half a mm or so along the edges to be bent made it fairly easy. I ran a bead of weld along the outside edges today just to be sure as the cut edges were weakened quite a lot. ;)
 
I made the lid for the new battery box this evening.

Then test fitted it to make sure the bonnet didn't hit the HV box - we have approx 10mm clearance. :eek:

And that is AFTER cutting the sound deadening away. :p

10mm is enough Ali.
Your power unit won't move that much, as long as you have the tie bars located.

I like that installation, it looks neat and tidy. ;)
