Problem -

ENGINE NON-START DUE TO ECM FAILURE - WATER INGRESS

Engine refuses to start. Re-starts only after a period of time, i.e. once ECM has dried out.

Cause

Water ingress into ECM due to various power wash operations.

The ECM is designed to be splash proof only, therefore it is possible under extremepower wash conditions to force water into the ECM via the casing or its drain holes.

Action

Inform all relevant service staff of this possibility and ensure adequate protection for the ECM is provided if a power wash is used in the engine compartment.
