Dear All

Sorry to drag up again what I believe (having searched) is an oft asked question, but does anybody know definitively if there is any way of connecting the Philips R770 head unit to the Alpine changer normally used with the C42 head unit?

You have probably guessed the scenario - idiot here has an R770 and buys what he thinks is a philips RC026 changer from good old ebay. Wrong! It's an Alpine one. My fault for not checking properly.:eek:

Is there anyway of making one work with the other, or will my Alpine changer be heading swiftly back to ebay?

Thanks Optimus, that is a possibility.

Does anyone know if the C42 would work with the older (my TD4 is 2000 vintage) steering wheel remote control?

See, the reason I bought the 'changer was to keep the vehicle display and the remote controls. I have a perfectly serviceable Pioneer DEH1800 single slot CD unit in the garage and the original plan was to just bung that in, but then I decided to be clever and maintain the originality......

I now have the changer in front of me, it is confirmed as an Alpine part number XQE000110MAD, or according to the instructions STC53117. Naturally it does not have the DIN plug, but a mini rectangular ISO type thing which is female with 8 pins. This is connected to the changer by about six inches of 7 core cable.

There is about half a mile of spagetti (wiring loom) that came with it, none of it with DIN plugs attached.

Surely there must be an adaptor available that will connect the 8 pin ISO to the DIN socket on the R770? (or not).

Come on all you ICE experts out there.....

I have never seen such an adaptor. I have thought about buying a damaged changer with the DIN plug and swapping the internal printed circuit board. (There is a small ribbon cable that connects the changer internals to the smaller interface board)

Would be much simpler to fit a RC026 cd changer or indeed upgrade the head unit.

Thanks Steve, I must say I am inclined to agree with you (especially as I have my eye on an RC026 at this moment). Therefore it looks like a swift return to fleabay for the Alpine changer unless anybody around here needs one?
 
Please don't be offended , but i cannot understand why so many people buy a autochanger for the philips / vistron head units... they are crap. sound bad , can't upgrade to amps etc

shurly it would be better to spend a bit more and pick up a alpine or kenwood package. £160 for tape and cd changer all working ,and not botched together to make it work..

Just my 2 pennys worth..

in my case pure economics. Duckworths sent me a 6 cd changer upgrade kit to go with my c42 for £42 inc. I now have a tape and cd changer all working and not botched together, esp. as it is a genuine landrover kit, all plugs and cables are a perfect match, took an hour to fit and is now exactly as it would have been when it left the factory.

Maybe the sound quality isn't 100% what I would have liked, but a)its only in my van for work, b) there's so much other crap rattling around in the back of the van it becomes hypothetical c)less likely (hopefully) to attract the attentions of the pikey fraternity

I have the OE LR setup in my vehicle. You can buy either a yellow plug with two sets of preouts (grundig type) or a long rectangular connector to allow pre outs on Philips R770, Becker and Visteon units.

The OE stuff sounds pretty good - I do have a 900W sub for a bit more bass, and I have fitted tweeters behind the mirror mounting covers.

As stated by OP - my aim was that the audio equipment in my vehicle is not desirable by the wrong sort.

I have a Philips RC026 (including lead) you can have for the bargain price of £20 plus postage. PM me if interested

Hi steve where do you get the lead which converts the stock r770 to allow pre-outs to run a sub?

I got mine from Philips / VDO when they had an outlet in Sheldon, Birmingham. It has since been closed for at least 5 years.

However - the lead fits only the R950 units (with their own display) - i dont think it would work on your model!!

One possible solution is to make connections to the standard speaker wiring and use an amplifier that can accept a high input (most can do both) rather than the rca low input.

Or you can buy a device that attaches to the speaker wires and converts to a low input.

Hope this helps - as for your PM follow the link in my sig for the fuel light info - it was made for me by a friend - but full details inc wiring diagrams are on the other forum mentioned.
