Be careful if your changing the oil or checking it’s level on the Jatco auto fitted to the Freelander 1. The nut that looks like a level plug on the rear of the box, is not a level plug. Remove it and you’ll loose reverse gear. You’ll need to strip the box to put the mechanism back. Warning on this web site below in the technical info section at the bottom:
